Heartbreaking: Coaches and GMs laughed at Darren Sproles when he measured in at the combine at only 5-foot-6 and 170 pounds.
Darren called his dad: “They laughed at me”
His Dad replied: “You know what to do”
Sproles became an absolute legend in the NFL.
Every school PREFERS tall players but it's NOT everything💯
As a matter of FACT, some schools will take taller players with LESS talent over shorter, more talented players!
Being shorter than the D1 Averages at your position will require a LOT more out of you if you want to get recruited the same as someone who hits the marks..
It is ignorant to think height won't effect your recruiting process, but you'll likely need:
- Insane Speed
- Multiple In Person Evaluations
- Great Grades
- Strong Combine Numbers
If you want to be recruited D1 as an undersized player!
Height is not the end-all-be-all but if you coast through the process undersized - expect to be overlooked!

2027 Recruits: pay attention to the NCAA Recruiting Calendar.
D1 FBS schools go “Dead” on June 22nd through all July. No on-campus visits. No OV’s. Most FBS staffs will try to fill their 2027 class by the end of the week. If you don’t visit before Monday, you won’t be able to visit until the season starts.
D1 FCS schools are “Quiet” through July. Full-go with campus visits and recruiting operations.
Spots at all D1 institutions are filling up fast. My advice? Don’t pass on guaranteed money waiting for the lottery to hit.
June 15th came and went.
As a rising junior, my son didn't receive a single text message, phone call, or direct message from a college coach.
Not one.
It would have been easy to get discouraged. It would have been easy to compare his journey to others. It would have been easy to think he was being overlooked.
Instead, he kept working.
Over the following months, his dedication, development, and persistence paid off as he earned 5 Division I offers. Eventually committing to ETSU.
If you didn't hear from a college coach yesterday, don't panic.
One day does not define your recruiting journey.
Keep improving your film.
Keep getting stronger.
Keep performing in the classroom.
Keep attending camps.
Keep building relationships.
Recruiting is a process, not a single day on the calendar.
Your opportunity may not come when you expect it, but that doesn't mean it isn't coming.
Stay the course. Keep working. Your time is coming.
Big shoutout to our guy @JovonOL_DL79 Jovon Wilder c/o 2029! 🚨🦍
The future is extremely bright for the big fella. A true dancing bear with rare size, power, and athleticism for his age. Even better? Humble, coachable, and brings the mentality you need to dominate.
Proud of the hard work our seniors @Jaizon_B@Malik1990199 — Malik Clark & Jaizon Balthazar (Class of 2026). Both taking the next step and choosing to continue their careers at @FB_KnoxCollege The work doesn’t stop here 💪🏾🏈
Appreciate Prep Redzone for recognizing Jovon Wilder from Noble Academy #52 in the state and #5 at his position.
I believe he’ll finish as a Top 25 player in the state by his senior year. We’re taking it one day at a time, staying consistent, and continuing to develop.
