I’m at a coaching conference and while the speakers are “successful” (male) coaches… multiple state/national champs, long-term programs, supportive families/comminities etc… here’s what I, as a HS coach would actually love to talk about that they aren’t…
(A thread)
- real ways you develop a love of running for kids even at EVERY level… freshman to varsity, state champ to last place
- getting families involved
- practical nutrition for teens (not fancy supplements)
- when kids show up with ZERO experience and no running shoes
- Growing a program when your path to state is pretty flipping hard
- getting more women involved… both as athletes AND coaches
Oak Park Cross Country had a great turn out for the first day of our summer camp! A lot of Future Oakies learning about running and finding joy in doing it!

A look at the first state champion for @PCHSTrack_Field boys since 2018. The Pirates’ 4x400-meter relay finished 1st in final race of Class 5 MSHSAA Track and Field Championships in Jefferson City, breaking a meet record in the event that had stood since 1986.

I love State Track so much… seeing all the hard work pay off, making friends with random kids/parents/coaches in the stands… is it just me or do we all tear up??
And the ice cream…
