The goal in drive blocking is to continue to win the vertical leverage battle while you drive to create horizontal displacement of the defender. We do this “dip and grab a bite” drill constantly to reinforce dropping again and again mid block to maintain a vertical win.
This is why if I’m ever a head coach, I’m running scout team myself. And I’m going to give my DC and my OC that work. I’m gonna coach scout team hard as hell.
One of the worst things you can do is be the HC and call plays on a side of the ball. 9 times out of 10 you will be too competitive and if the other side is giving you work you will yell at the coaches giving it to you and complaining they are “just trying to win practice” instead of coaching your side harder.
I have seen it many times.
I have been on teams where it’s good on good and the HC told us to let the WRs get open or let the QB throw.
I’m thinking to myself “😒 how does this benefit our team?”
It’s HS football in 2024…you don’t need to be in the office 10+ hours over the weekend…use technology, take what’s there, and don’t install 9-10 new things ya can’t do each week because your opponent got beat by something a month ago
