The #1 job of a coach is to build a culture.
What is culture?
1. Culture is what you allow.
2. Culture is what you emphasize.
3. Culture is every day.
Your culture never arrives. Build it and clean it each and every day.
Culture Wins!
What an unbelievable night at The Garden! It’s hard to even explain the feeling in that building. Two unbelievable teams, high-level competitors and a building pulsing with emotion and passion.
It was so great to see Karl, De’Aaron and Keldon, as well as two of my other great big guys - Marcus Camby and Dakari Johnson!
I am so happy for my friends Leon Rose and William Wesley and the staff in New York for what they have built.
I got to spend some time with all the Knicks Alums, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock but I was too nervous to introduce myself to Taylor Swift! LOL!
Watching those two teams, with their guards showing incredible fight, focused on winning and and MAKING OTHERS BETTER, I couldn’t help but think about two guards in this upcoming draft who do the same things. Darius Acuff and Meleek Thomas along with Trevon Brazile are going to make a couple of franchises very happy!!
CANT WAIT TO START COACHING MY TEAM!!!!
Now back to recruiting!!
Watch the best teams in the country and you'll notice they don't play faster... they process information faster.
The ball moves faster.
Decisions happen faster.
Rotations are recognized faster.
Advantages are attacked faster.
Speed in basketball isn't always about athleticism. It's often about reducing the time between recognition and execution.
You won’t be the leader you hope to be.
You won’t be the leader you say you want to be.
You will be the leader you are willing to work to become.
Do the work.
It doesn’t cost you anything to empower the next person.
We have so many people in positions of leadership that are jealous of individuals that they have more than.
I will never be the type of leader that’s afraid to uplift someone higher due to my own insecurities of being lapped.

“Our team experienced the traumatic loss of a beloved teammate around this time last year, but we remained faithful and connected through it all. That adversity brought us even closer together and helped shape one of our best seasons in the last five years. We are a TOUGH, resilient team that continues to honor his legacy every day.” -Deoplus Williams
Be driven by vision, not emotion.
Ask yourself, "Based on where I want to be (and where I want our team to be) in 1/3/5 years, what does this moment require of me?"
It's not about what's easier now, it's about what gets you closer to where you want to be.
The most underrated leadership attribute?
Consistency.
Your team doesn’t need perfect. They need predictable.
Same standards. Same energy. Same you. Every day.
That’s who they’ll run through a wall for.
Dan Hurley shares a blunt reminder about what it takes to be great.
"If you can't sit through an hour and 15 minute video session...get out of this industry because this is only for the most competitive people."
The film room isn't glamorous. It's tedious, repetitive, and easy to zone out, but that's exactly why it separates.
The ones who consistently work even when it's boring are the same ones who execute when it matters.
Greatness isn't for the interested - it's for the ones who embrace the boredom of consistency.
