Prep School is about opportunity. Go where you are going to play. Go where you are you can play against quality competition.
Your competition for the scholarship isn't high school players. You have to make yourself more attractive than transfer players & Juco players.
Parents: HS season starts Monday & here are some reminders to make it great for your player:
1. Clap loudly and often-for every player...there is nothing like hearing collective encouragement from the stands.
2. Encourage hard work and effort-being a good teammate should be the only goal YOU should have for your child.
3. HS season is long. They not only have basketball but homework, studying, friends, etc. It can be stressful. Be supportive and encouraging.
4. Support the team how you can, offer support, give rides, sponsor team meals, do what you can to promote a positive culture off the court and in the stands.
5. Do not approach your coach with advice, criticism, or complaints-unless you are asked. 99.9% of the time there is a reason for a decision, play, player change and unless you are a professional coach-stay in your lane. If a coach needs your opinion, they will ask for it.
6. Do NOT talk bad/gossip about other players or coaches in the stands or to your kids. Unless your child is perfect which means she has never missed a shot, never had a turnover, never screwed up then your mouth should stay closed. You don't know who can hear or who is around you and your comments only hurt your daughter.
7. 99% of these girls will stop playing after HS, you want their legacy to be a positive one.
8. Come to watch the game or don't come at all. No one wants to hear your game analysis or scouting report-I promise you that.
9. DO NOT yell coaching advice to your players through the game. I guarantee your coaching advice is not more important than the coaching their coach is providing.
10. Do NOT yell at the refs. EVER. They are not perfect either. They will make bad calls and they know it. There is a dire referee shortage and without them, the kids don't play.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Your child's success or lack of it on the court is in no way a direct reflection of your parenting- Having an athlete that is respectful, coachable, welcoming, mentally tough and resilient who tries their best IS a direct reflection of YOUR parenting. Let's have a GREAT 23-24 Season!
Anderson transferred from Platt (CT) and reclassed. He showed off a lot of versatility and threw down numerous thunderous dunks during the 2 games I saw him.
