@FlickJacob@pntrack I can’t imagine, Coach. You build your lineup and structure your whole training with the meet schedule in mind. If you’re willing to share, how did the conversation go trying to decide how to handle the mix up?
Two of my old worlds colliding at the top of the podium! A fellow Track Houston Track Club guy in Mitchell taking 1st and Tubbs grabbing 2nd for my alma mater.
Both guys absolutely ROLLING.
THE FASTEST MAN IN TEXAS
CE King’s Dillon Mitchell wins Gold in the UIL 6A State 100M with a time of 9.92!
🥇- Dillion Mitchell, CE King 9.92
🥈- Charvis Tubbs, Humble 10.03
🥉- Chinwoke Onwuchekwa, Cy Springs 10.12

@OlneyTigerTrack Numbers don’t lie and they’re impossible to ignore. As much as we want to tout our coach’s eye, how many kids might we overlook if their marks weren’t objectively printed on a results sheet?
Harder to quantify the work done by the backup corner or point guard.
Back-to-Back Interstate-8 Conference Champs!
- 13 PRs
- 8 Event Conference Champs
- Not a single athlete performed under their seed across 18 events.
John Wooden placed Competitive Greatness atop his pyramid of success. Today’s performance by these boys exemplified that.
It’s the commentary for me. 😂
I’m sure having a great team in any sport is awesome, but there’s nothing like lining up your best vs everyone else’s best at the same time and coming away with the win.
If you run over 3:10 you’re basically running for personal bests, because only top 2 qualify for state.
So grateful for IHSA’s qualifying standards on a day like today.
There is not a single non-championship meet more competitive or with higher stakes than the Region III State Qualifier each year.
Some All-Time great times from my Humble Wildcats! I can’t imagine running 40.54 and 1:25.15 and possibly not sending either relay to state.
@THS_trackfield I’d love to take the team down to a good southern Illinois meet, but that’s our senior night. Maybe next year if there’s a good one in April.
@MikeCunningham I like thinking about how the different states championship series impact strategy.
With Illinois only having sectional and state, you can have a completely different lineup for Conference than the one you have at the state meet. In Texas, you gotta set it for Districts.
I’m interested to know how many states award double points for relays like UIL and the Texas state meet and how much that plays a factor.
We wouldn’t go 1:22 (most likely), but in Illinois you’ll routinely see teams not load their 4x200m in the championship season. We didn’t.
