Ozzie played college football at the University of Alabama. After graduation he played Tight End for the Cleveland Browns for 12 years. He is known for his for his time as the first Black General Manager in the NFL working for the Baltimore Ravens, helping win two Super Bowls.
Leon is not just know for his play on the field during his time at Methodist. Leon wrote the Methodist University Football Fight Song during his time at MU. Since graduation Leon has spent time in China.
The second spotlight is an NFL Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome.
This week we have 2 men to highlight during our Black History Month Spotlight. The first is Leon Clark. Leon is a Methodist Alumni who was an Honorable Mention All American in 96’. Prior to Leon’s arrival to campus he served in the Marines.
He also had stops at Butler, Pittsburgh, Kent State, and Wofford. Bing eventually earned a Tony Dungy Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the Indianapolis Colts earning a full time roll with them and moving on to the Carolina Panthers.
His accolades include two time All-South Region, three time All-USA South Athletic Conference selection, & a five time USA-South All Academic team selection. After his Graduation to Methodist Bing began his coaching career at Heidelburg.
Our next Black History Month Spotlight is MU alumni Bryan Bing. Bing graduated Methodist in 2015 with a degree in Criminal Justice. During his time at Methodist he totaled 319 Tackles, 3 Interceptions, and 5 Forced fumbles.
A 2002 Methodist University graduate with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Paralegal Studies, Dr. Malloy also earned his Master’s in Higher Education from Walden University and his terminal degree in Educational Leadership from Fayetteville State University.
This Black History Month, we proudly honor MU alumnus and Current Vice President of Campus Engagement, Community and Belonging at Methodist University, Dr. Quincy Malloy — a record-setting student-athlete, 2x All-American, and member of the MU and USA South Football Hall of Fame.
Black History Month is a time to honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future. All month long, we will spotlight Black men and women whose accomplishments have made a lasting impact.
