Making an impact on and off the court 🙌
Congratulations to Naylani on earning one of the top six for service awards! So proud of everything you’ve done 🫶
7 Ways to Make Today a Better Day:
1. Look for the good.
2. Appreciate the little things.
3. Help someone.
4. Tell someone they matter.
5. Give more than you take.
6. Speak words of encouragement and hope (to yourself and others).
7. Believe the best is yet to come.
“A leader with integrity is whole and complete. There’s no gap between what they say and do. There’s no separation between their character, values, principles, and actions. Their actions are representative of their values and principles.”
BE YOUR OWN GREATEST ENCOURAGER
If your best friend was struggling with confidence you wouldn’t condemn them, chide them, or make them feel worse by telling them they will never be successful.
You would tell them you believe in them. You would cheer them on. You would remind them of their past successes and their strengths.
You would share all the reasons why they will succeed.
You would lift them up with your words.
This is how you should talk to yourself as well.
While we need encouragement from others, we need it even more from ourselves.
I want to encourage you to make it a habit to be your own greatest encourager. Don’t let anyone else out encourage you.
Let your encouraging voice be more powerful and positive than any of your friends, colleagues and family.
When doubt creeps in, trust that you have the power to overcome.
When negative thoughts tell you that you won’t make it, tell yourself why you will succeed.
When discouragement tries to defeat you, keep encouraging yourself to win the battle of your mind and in the world.
When distractions try to derail you, keep reminding yourself why your life and work matters.
When your past mistakes seek to condemn you, forgive yourself and tell yourself about the positive future you are creating.
When you become your own greatest encourager, failure will not define you, adversity will not defeat you and negativity will not sabotage you.
You will win the day and the future!

THE POWER OF THANK YOU
In the spirit of Thanksgiving this week I'd love to share with you the benefits and power of two simple words. THANK YOU.
They are two words that have the power to transform our health, happiness, athletic performance and success. Research shows that grateful people are happier and more likely to maintain good friendships. A state of gratitude, according to research by the Institute of HeartMath, also improves the heart's rhythmic functioning, which helps us to reduce stress, think more clearly under pressure and heal physically. It's actually physiologically impossible to be stressed and thankful at the same time. When you are grateful you flood your body and brain with emotions and endorphins that uplift and energize you rather than the stress hormones that drain you.
Gratitude and appreciation are also essential for a healthy work environment. In fact, the number one reason why people leave their jobs is because they don't feel appreciated. A simple thank you and a show of appreciation can make all the difference.
Gratitude is like muscle. The more we do with it the stronger it gets. In this spirit here are 5 ways to practice Thanksgiving every day of the year.
1) Take a Daily Thank You Walk - I started this practice many years ago and it changed my life. Take a simple 10-30 minute walk each day and say out loud what you are thankful for. This will set you up for a positive day. I wrote more about this in The Positive Dog.
2) Meal Time Thank You's - On Thanksgiving, or just at dinner go around the table and have each person, including the kids, say what they are thankful for.
3) Gratitude Visit - Martin Seligman, Ph.D., the father of positive psychology, suggests that we write a letter expressing our gratitude to someone. Then we visit this person and read them the letter. His research shows that people who do this are measurably happier and less depressed a month later.
4) Say Thank You at Work - When Doug Conant was the CEO of Campbell Soup he wrote approximately 30,000 thank you notes to his employees and energized the company in the process. Energize and engage your co-workers and team by letting them know you are grateful for them and their work. Organizations spend billions of dollars collectively on recognition programs but the best and cheapest recognition program of all consists of a sincere THANK YOU. And of course don't forget to say thank you to your clients and customers too.
5) Say Thank you and Goodnight – At bedtime reflect on your day, identify and share all that you are thankful for. If you have children you can read Thank You and Goodnight with them and add to it.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Thank you for allowing me to share this newsletter with you. I'm thankful for YOU.

Greatness isn’t achieved by worrying what everyone thinks of you. Don’t look outside. The praise, criticism, expectations; it’s all just noise. Look inside to your heart and soul and do your thing. Do it with love, knowing that love casts out fear, and create greatness from the inside out.
IGNORE THE CRITICS; DO THE WORK
Positive leaders don’t lead because they want recognition or enemies. They lead because there is something they must do, build, create, transform, and change. They lead because it’s who they are and what they are meant to do. However, with leadership comes scrutiny, praise, critics, and attacks. A leader could find a cure for cancer and would still have some people criticize them for it. There was even once a leader who transformed the world by feeding the hungry, healing the sick, and loving the unlovable, and yet he was killed for it. If you are a leader, expect to be attacked. Positive leadership doesn’t mean you won’t be criticized. It means you have the grit and belief to overcome it. Positive leaders don’t lead in a tranquil sea of positivity, but through the storms of adversity and negativity.
Leadership is knowing that the critics will criticize you while still saying what needs to be said and doing what needs to be done. History doesn’t remember the critics. It remembers the one who withstood criticism to accomplish something great.
In our modern social-media–driven world, you will have more fans and critics than ever. The keys are: Don’t let praise go to your head and don’t let critics into your head. Be so invested in your craft that you don’t have time to listen to the naysayers. No time for negativity. You’re too busy creating the future. If I would have listened to the naysayers and critics, I would have stopped working on my craft years ago. I want to encourage you to never let the opinion of others define you and your future. Your identity doesn’t come from what the world says about you. It comes from who you are on the inside. Your work, leadership, and mission are too important to allow others to define your destiny.
No matter what anyone says, just show up and do the work.
If they praise you, show up and do the work.
If they criticize you, show up and do the work.
If no one even notices you, just show up and do the work.
Just keep showing up, doing the work, and leading the way.
Lead with passion.
Fuel up with optimism.
Have faith.
Power up with love.
Maintain hope.
Be stubborn.
Fight the good fight.
Refuse to give up.
Ignore the critics.
Believe in the impossible.
Show up.
Do the work.
You’ll be glad you did.
True grit leads to true success.
