University of Houston coach Kelvin Sampson with an in-season worthy smackdown of the trend of individual workout coaches that so many players rely on these days. "If you're playing in a one on zero tournament, I think you'd be pretty good. The problem is we play five on five."
Love this sequence from our guys from last night:
1) Timely strong side double by Bryson with hands up putting the offensive player in a tough spot.
2) Good backside positioning by Trent to take away the pass to the block while Dre plays two on the weak side.
3) Porter arrives on the catch on the kick out while Pierce sprints away from the double to re-match.
4) ELITE job by Dre sprinting to the next gap to cover up the pass while being in position for an “in-to-out” gap stunt which earns the steal.
5) Great run-out as both Bryson and Pierce put their head down and sprint the wings creating an advantage fast break for us.
6) Good pass by Dre after drawing the defender as he had both left and right side options for the layup due to the run out.
Basketball can be beautiful.. it can also be ugly. As always, we will celebrate the positive clips in film today and also hold our staff and players accountable for the mistakes in other clips so we can all improve together.
Shoutout to the parents of players who may not see a lot of varsity minutes but still show up to every game with dedication and support. Your encouragement and the values you instill in your kids are what make teams stronger and communities thrive.
