ZIPPER 2
1๏ธโฃ Dribble to the wing
2๏ธโฃ Use the zipper cut
3๏ธโฃ Blur cut in front of the ball
4๏ธโฃ Attack the gap downhill
Simple action. Big driving lane.
@CoachColeDavis I chart it within reason of the paint touch of the action doesnโt break .5 rules so a common one is a hockey assist paint touch kick swing.
The best offenses track paint touches obsessively because most elite offense begins with collapsing defensive structure. A paint touch forces the low man to rotate, weak side defenders to stunt, and perimeter defenders to shift their positioning. One drive can trigger 3-4 defensive reactions before the ball is even shot.
This is why spacing matters so much. Dunker spot positioning, shake action, slot lifts, drift spacing, and relocation shooting all exist to punish help defense once the paint is touched. Basketball at the highest levels is often about forcing one defender to make two decisions simultaneously.

This should be shown to all youth teams. Fits todayโs offensive concepts of .5 decision making: shoot it, drive it, or move it on the catch. Create a paint touch, kick out, move it 2-3 x, force a long closeout, attack downhill, rim finish.
๐ โWaveโ teaches players how to create offense through spacing, timing, and smart movement.
Swing it. Lift it. Attack it.
No standing. No overthinking. Just teaching players how to play together within concepts.
Never understood H.S. coaches who ignore freshman or JV programs.
Thatโs the future of your varsity team.
Then they complain about no depth, culture, or players ready for varsity.
If you only coach varsity, youโre not building a programโyouโre just coaching a team.

Like this option a lot can work well with DDM and Drive and Space teams because as I have said it is organized penetration system and any common actions can be used to flow into these conceptual offenses.
to Middle School Parents:
Not one time during my tenure with Mater Dei Basketball, while it was a powerhouse, did myself or anyone else ask an incoming freshman: What club do you play for? How many games did you win? How many points did you score?
Either you arrived ready to compete for a spot, or you arrived needing to learn what you didnโt know. That was the reality.
Who you play for what you learn in MS will propel you or stall you.
@LawEnfPlanner The more players able to attack the better but feel you need a minimum of 2 attackers and 2 shooter hopefully they are not the same two players.
@natewarner_2 I donโt recruit players I am a Hs coach. IMO need two players who can get paint touches but if we are creating triple gaps and players canโt get in paint that is skill deficiency not an offense deficiency. If you donโt have players that can attack or shoot no offense works.
Most coaches quit the Dribble Drive too early.
Itโs not because it doesnโt workโฆ
Itโs because it looks messy before it looks good.
If youโre installing it, remember this:
โข Be patient
โข Emphasize spacing & gaps
โข Hunt paint touches
โข Attack North-South
