Social studies teacher & baseball coach dismissed for discussing racial justice in a HS social studies class. TNTech ‘04, Ed.S Lincoln Memorial University ‘12
Why we should move away from standardized testing.
"Standardized assessments, as a form of accountability, do not improve teacher practice. They do not build thinkers and creators in students."

I am grateful to have my story included in this project. “School Moms: Parent Activism, Partisan Politics, and the Battle for Public Education” is out now, and I am excited to read it and hope you will read it too. Thank you @LauraPappano@BeaconPressBks

“After coming in dead last in this caucus, Indian-American Vivek Ramaswamy pulled out of the race because he finally learned the hard way that he is far too Brown to still be considered part of the model minority…. his sentiments were “there’s no path for me to be the next president absent things that we don’t want to see happen in this country.” To complain about the racism that you swore didn’t exist a few days ago is the loud utterance of an equivocator falling on his own sword.”
@JeremyFaison4TN At least they didn't pass a law making it illegal for TN public school students to discuss, debate, analyze, and evaluate Dr. King's ideas in the classroom. Even showing this post in a HS government or contemporary issues class is against the law in TN.
Aside from fighting for racial equity & justice, MLK was also anti-war and opposed to systems that create poverty in perpetuity. Let's remember that it is still illegal for TN teachers to have students discuss and analyze these ideas in their classrooms.

Moms for Liberty’s campaign against indoctrination mostly takes place in the two subjects that could help them see the irony here, English and social studies.
@EastmanChemCo This is the county commissioner who represents the district adjacent to your world headquarters. Must be tough getting talent to relocate to this area with this kind of blatant racism on such public display. https://t.co/OlPAluW23T
5/5/21 TN passes divisive concepts bill that morning & I am dismissed from my teaching job tht afternoon for discussing white privilege in social studies class. Today TN continues to remove varying viewpoints from universities to the floor of the house of reps. @Kyla_Lacey
@notcapnamerica An unequivocal lie… @CoachMattHawn was literally fired in Tennessee for teaching my work which was about race… @Moms4Liberty keep lying though, hopefully you all will believe it
Things that get you expelled from the TN House of Reps:
Having a differing viewpoint than the supermajority.
Things that do not:
Criminal indictment
Fraud (Phoenix Solutions)
Urinating on another rep’s chair
Sexual misconduct
TN isn’t a democracy.
And here is Sen. Joey Hensley standing up on the House floor with the Maury County Mule Day Court proudly wearing his Confederate flag tie. And another big racist rant in Government Operations committee today. Every. Damn. Day.
@UTMSGA actions like this are great first steps in fighting for truth in education, and academic freedom. Thank you. Hopefully other institutions of higher Ed in TN will follow suit. https://t.co/MNj6h2Xk5K
