PE Teacher at Towne Acres (K-5) - Former 1st Grade Teacher - Assist Baseball Coach at Science Hill - GBG Southeast Baseball - Johnson City Schools Tech Leader
Last week before Thanksgiving and we are playing a game from @pe2themax called Quick Six.
The students love the idea of earning a card by rolling a Quick Six and they don’t even notice how many laps they are running! 😂

Excited for our Walters State boys, @NateConner_SH, @JackTorbett1, @MajorOsbolt, and Ryan Smith, competing for the National Championship at 9 pm on ESPN+
Go Senators!!
I had no idea @pe2themax was going to be at this year’s @tahperd conference.
It was great to meet the person who has had such a huge impact on our PE program!
Highlights from last week's game Risky Business from @pe2themax
It's amazing how much students will participate if there is a simple award attached.
A simple game that encourages goal setting, teamwork, and strategy. It is also great for younger grades to practice working with money.

@PE_with_Mr_G@thepespecialist Yes. I believe Ben uses benches for the students to catch on. I only have these blue step ups. I stack 2 of them and have 2 catching locations on each side. The students pick who goes over first, but it’s pretty fast paced, so everyone gets to catch.
Playing a crowd favorite this week from @thepespecialist ...Boom City!
A fun game to work on throwing and catching (as well as strategy and teamwork) with grades 2nd-5th.
1st grade was able to play a modified version with shorter throwing and catching distances w/ no blockers.
@PE_with_Mr_G Yes, they start out at a distance they’re comfortable with, and jog a lap once they make six throws in a row. Increasing throwing distance after each jog around the gym.
Simple warm up and only lasts about 3-5 minutes.
Focus On The Step!
This week our focus with overhand throwing was on our FIRST STEP with the opposite foot.
Overemphasizing the first step helps to create:
- Rhythm and Timing
- Momentum Towards Our Target
- More Accuracy With Our Throw
- Hip Rotation, Which Means More Power!
I have also noticed that when we focus on the first step, it cleans up a lot of mechanical issues the students have with their overhand throw, and helps to create a more fluid motion.

We can’t have a good first month of the school year without playing Boom City!
I believe when these students get older and think back to their elementary PE days, this will be one of their favorite games they played.

Second week back highlights!
Based off the board game "Connect Four" this game incorporates fitness, strategy, problem solving, and communication.
One of the many great game ideas from @pe2themax#physed#elementarype
