Athlete: Coach… I think I want to quit.
Coach: Okay. Then let’s talk about why.
Athlete: I’m tired. All the early mornings, the pain, the pressure. Sometimes I wake up and wonder what I’m even doing this for.
Coach: That’s not quitting. That’s being human. Doubt shows up when you’re close to something that matters.
Athlete: But I’m not even sure I’m good enough. I look around and see people stronger, faster… happier.
Coach: Comparison is a liar. It shows you everyone’s surface but hides their struggle. You don’t need to be better than them. You need to be better than yesterday.
Athlete: What if I never win? What if I give everything and still fall short?
Coach: Then you’ll walk away with something most never touch—truth. The kind you only find when you’ve emptied yourself for something bigger than comfort.
Athlete: So… you think I should keep going?
Coach: I think you already know the answer. You wouldn’t be having this conversation if you truly wanted to stop. You just want someone to remind you that it’s worth it.
Athlete: It hurts, Coach. Some days, it really hurts.
Coach: Good. That means you care. And nothing worth having comes without pain. Now breathe. You’ve made it through every hard day so far.
Most quit before the breakthrough!
Don’t be like most!

If your 14 YO multi-sport athlete isn’t willing to eat breakfast daily, make his or her own snacks, put their phone down an hour before bed they really don't care about being great.
Seriously, if a 14 YO who has a tablet, spends > 4 hours/day social media, is enrolled in specialized training/multiple sports that you spend thousands of dollars on annually should absolutely be able to structure a routine!
Summer is coming to a close. It's not the time to goof off. Now is the time to dial in your nutrition, sleep, hydration, and habits.
Don’t claim you want to be great, set PRs this fall, and be a starter yet have a work ethic consistent with riding the bench.
Some extra tough love from me this morning.. there’s a lot of hard working athletes out there hungry to get better and will easily outperform those who slept in, stayed up late, skipped breakfast, and cared more about social media than they do playing time.
You reap what you sow. If you want to be a first string starter your habits should reflect that. Control your controllables.
Lane Kiffin said, “You win the trophy, you hold it up, you take a picture, you hand it back, and you go try to win the next one.”
The Process is the Prize.
The trophy is just that, a trophy.
This is the power of “mindset” in competition.
It is about finding joy in the journey of pursuing excellence.
It is about getting better each and every day.
It is about living in the present moment.
It is about competing with yourself every day.
Don’t get hung up on the trophy.
Get hung up on the process.
Trust the process.
LAZY vs. HARD WORK
"Lazy people do a little work and think they should be winning! Winners work as hard as possible and still wonder if they are being lazy!"
