BUNTING IS HARD

Situations call for execution, then your handed a 97mph sinker.

The slightest barrel dump impacts ball angle. Even the best in the world don’t get it right every time.

@89WLS Love good baseball being highlighted on the national stage!

If your kid’s coach is not teaching them how to bunt, ask the coach “why?”

If he says, “It’s a dead out,”
FIND THE EXIT

If he says, “Well, the data says…” FIND THE EXIT

If he says, “It takes away the big inning,”
FIND THE EXIT

Refusing to teach the skill of bunting leaves hitters one dimensional, increasingly self outcome oriented, and limited in approach during slumps or at bats against dominant pitching.

Bunting increases hand eye coordination, plate/zone awareness, athleticism, and provides immediate barrel feedback.
It is a tool that can disrupt pitcher timing/flow/comfort, and defensive alignments which creates gaps and opportunities for more base hits. It gives you an offensive outlet if you’re being overpowered.

FIND A COACH WHO TEACHES EVERYTHING!
DON’T LIMIT YOUR KIDS’ OFFENSIVE DEVELOPMENT!

This is genius. I am now in favor of bunting again. Pat Murphy rules.

This is amazing! Thanks for posting! He’s playing chess while the other teams are playing checkers. Gonna be back to back to back Manager of the Year. Unheard of!

So overdue…and so refreshing. Murph is literally grabbing the pendulum with his own two hands and pushing it back to the center. The vast majority of pitchers loathe the bunt game and they share this openly.

This was such a fun listen.

What a great manager.

BUNTING MANIPULATES PITCHER APPROACH AND SETS THE TABLE FOR FUTURE MOMENTS

With 2 outs and no body on in the 3rd inning, losing 4-0, @Brewers Manager Pat Murphy told #9 hitter David Hamilton to lay down a bunt in a seemingly unimportant at bat.

Why?

Because Murphy knew Hamilton was known for bunting and they could set the table for a future at bat and big moment later in the game where he’d get a pitch to hit.

And that’s exactly what happened.

Hamilton bunted.
Hamilton got out.

But in the 5th, in Hamilton’s next at bat, he got a pitch in the heart of the plate and singled scoring a run and bringing the Brewers within 1.
And in the 9th, Hamilton did it again, homering on a get me over slider and extending the Brewers lead to 6-4.

You bunt to create future moments, and the Brewers did just that.
