No one wants to play for a coach who is constantly negative. It’s important to love your players equally as hard as you push them. The better your relationship, the harder you can coach them.

Constantly challenge and motivate your athletes but don’t disrespect them and never make it personal.

Condemn the action, not the athlete:
“That is soft,” instead of, “You are soft.”

“That’s not good enough,” instead of, “You are not enough good.”

“That is a bad shot,” instead of, “You are a bad shooter.”

Most importantly, compliment daily. Be direct, intentional, and specific when good things happen. Give high fives. Call out players for positive change. Give credit. Show love.
