Today's Supreme Court decision on the birthright citizenship amendment should have been a unanimous 9-0 ruling, not a razor-thin 5-4 squeaker — and the fact that it was this close should absolutely terrify every single one of us.
The term "birthright citizenship" is often framed as an immigration-only issue. That framing is completely intentional, and it is precisely why this right is under attack.
In reality, if you were born on American soil, you have birthright citizenship. Today, the Supreme Court ruled by a single vote that your constitutional citizenship stands.
Four strategically installed justices — Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh — voted to undermine that very right, with Kavanaugh dissenting in part, according to The Guardian.
A core strategy of the current anti-American movement seizing our institutions and violating the rule of law is to take a foundational right and rebrand it to sound like it only applies to immigrants.
In truth, today's dangerously narrow decision could have placed the citizenship status of anyone born on American soil in serious jeopardy.
While the selling point to nativists focused on American citizens born to immigrant parents, had the decision gone the other way, it would have left everyone's citizenship status incredibly vulnerable.
The majority ruling was simple: "Children born in the United States to parents unlawfully or temporarily present are ‘subject to the jurisdiction’ of the United States and are citizens at birth under the Fourteenth Amendment’s Citizenship Clause."
In other words, it was a 5-4 vote just to ensure the 14th Amendment stands.
In a chilling dissent, Justice Samuel Alito argued that the Court made a "serious mistake" by upholding the 14th Amendment.
Is it any wonder fascist crybullies are cranking up their whining?
When the midterms are over, lawmakers must immediately address this dangerous slate of compromised justices and their relentless attempts to dismantle centuries of American democracy from the bench.

Mast said: "they deserved it & he loved the pager attack" Does that mean that he also deserved losing his lower limbs?
