Spurs/Thunder might be the most interesting chess match between two coaching staffs in NBA history.
The constant battle between the Spurs trying to keep Wemby at the basket, and the Thunder adjusting their spacing in each game to get him out.
The Spurs trying to keep Shai away from the middle of the floor and out of the paint completely, while the Thunder change screening angles, floor alignments, etc. to get him space to operate.
Then in Game 4, the Spurs going away from doubles, and the Thunder finding a way to consistently force 2 on the ball in Game 5.
On the other side, the Spurs trying to get Wemby free in the paint on offense, and the Thunder doing everything in their power to push him to the perimeter.
Every game of this series has looked completely different. It’s been a masterclass for anyone who cares about more than “falling” and ref discourse.
Tough teams do 3 things better than everyone else:
1. They communicate
2. They hold each other accountable
3. They keep showing up, no matter what
It’s not just a mindset.
It’s your standard.
Kelvin Sampson explains what great coaching looks like and why coaching is really teaching.
"What is it that you learned new today? Write it down so you don't forget it."
"Make a list of the things you learned. Then go find an assistant coach tomorrow and say, 'Here's the things I learned today. Can you show me what coach meant with video?'"
Learn how your players best learn and meet them where they are.
"Coach's job is to figure out who learns at what rate. There's nothing wrong with any rate they learn."
Then he dropped the line every coach needs to hear:
"Nothing's ever been learned until it's been taught. And nothing's ever been taught until it's been learned."
"Our job is not coaching. You coach during a game. But in practice every day, you're a teacher."
"Our job is to teach these kids to the best of our abilities and help them learn."
This is what great coaching looks like.
The best coaches are teachers first.

I've had many athletes over the years that were great leaders. All of them had the separating factor that they lived it daily. Being the best version of them THAT day was critical in their existence.
Leaders don’t turn it on.
They live in it.
Tom Brady broke leadership down simply:
To be your best, you need three things:
Physical. Mental. Emotional.
Talent gets you in the room. Processing and applying gets you on the field. But what separates you?
Competitive stamina.
Not just on game day.
Every day.
Brady said he treated practice like it mattered more than anything. No entitlement. No “I’ll flip the switch later.”
Every rep was the standard.
Because here’s the truth:
When you show up with that level of intent…
everyone else has to rise.
That’s leadership.
Not speeches.
Not titles.
Daily example.
Leaders don’t have off days, they raise the standard every day.
Are you waiting for game day, or treating today like it matters?
Gregg Popovich and the Spurs culture built an identity, a culture, and a dynasty through three principles.
"I kept hearing 'getting over yourself,' and I didn't know what that meant."
"It's people that push that culture. Selfless. Character. Pound the rock. That comes off of my tongue like a song."
Great teams have a selfless attitude.
That's Spurs culture - that's the stonecutter principle.
You don't win championships with one big swing. You win by showing up every day and hitting the rock until it breaks.
The best cultures aren't built on talent alone. They're built with great people. People willing to get over themselves and commit to something bigger.
"His innate curiosity about the world allows him to meet everybody where they are."
Great leaders don't demand people come to them. They meet people where they are.
Selfless, character, and pound the rock.

Big time congrats to 2026 @jack4sheriff on his commitment to @OBU_MBBall!
A true winner in every sense — gets it done on the court and carries himself the right way off it. Programs don’t just get a player, they get a culture guy.
Proud of you, Jack. The best is ahead! 💯🏀
Congratulations to LA Clippers Guard @PedullaSean on being named the 2026 @nbagleague Rookie of the Year! 🏆 Pedulla ranked first in scoring and second in assists among all rookies🔋

Athletes: This is the real reason you get subbed out.
One of the best ways to be a mentally strong athlete is to learn how to own your body language—regardless of external circumstances, opposition, or adversity.
Be the athlete whose body language never wavers.
Big news for a couple of our senior Bulldogs! Congrats to Bode Lashley and Jack Sheriff on being named by the Oklahoma Coaches Association as 6A All Stars by Class! We are proud of both of you!
