Absolutely devastated to learn about the passing of Rob Violante this morning.
Rob was a star QB and basketball player at Somers when I was in HS. Always heard the name and knew he was the son of legendary football coach Skip Violante at Dobbs Ferry. And he, and his brothers Chris and Brian, later became friends of mine.
Really got to know Rob when he was an assistant on the state championship football teams, under bis dad, at Dobbs in the mid 2000s. Rob was then an assistant basketball coach on the Lincoln Hall team that won a Gold Ball in the unforgettable game at the County Center. He was currently the head coach and admin at Bergenfield HS in NJ.
Almost all of our conversations the last five years was him speaking with pride about his nephews, Andrew and Cameron, and their successes as athletes in Somers. He lived for his nephews and nieces. He didn’t miss one of their games. I always admired that pride he had in his family and how close they were.
Rob was one of the people killed in the fatal accident on the Taconic yesterday.
My love to the Violante’s, one of my favorite families I’ve come across in my life. Genuinely good people and the model sports family.
Rob was one of a kind.
