University of Houston coach Kelvin Sampson with an in-season worthy smackdown of the trend of individual workout coaches that so many players rely on these days. "If you're playing in a one on zero tournament, I think you'd be pretty good. The problem is we play five on five."
Houston coach Kelvin Sampson spoke at length today about the importance of staff retention being part of the program's "secret sauce."
"All of my auxiliary staff that we have in our program were former managers," Sampson said. "I don't take résumés and I don't take phone calls. I hire everything from within. Everybody thinks they need to go hire the best recruiter or the best this. We develop our staff like we develop our players. That's culture."
This is so cool. If you don’t follow Dustin & you think you know hoops and are pushing yourself to grow, you’re wrong. His breakdowns are elite. Thankful for my time around PGC & Dustin! https://t.co/eVeVURovNm
Young coaches…interviewing for an Asst job. Most HC’s don’t care about X&O’s

Driving van
Google doc food orders
Laundry
Airport pick up
Small group workouts
Early/late opening gym
Video editing
Photoshop
Cleaning
Then-you’ll be asked about X&O’s

Christian Braun switches hands in mid air, dunks on Gobert and then throws down an oop on the next play.

These are the types of lessons and experiences that shape all of us!
REGRETS come from CHOICES!
My 3 big regrets after coaching 10 years at the D1 level -
1. Choosing results over relationships.
2. Choosing to work more on “recruiting” than my own health & body.
3. Choosing to push & challenge players with emotion rather than intentionality.
