@CoachACrisp I hit 14 camps last year doing the college coach thing and IMO Vanderbilt had the best setup for kids and their high school teams. Four straight Thursday afternoons and four straight Sunday afternoons. 8 opportunities for kids that didn’t really effect their team
Been on both sides of the fence, public and private school educator/coach. Regarding discipline, public schools hands are so tied by so many factors that private schools don’t have to deal with. A disruptive kid can hijack the learning environment of 30 other kids on a daily basis and a public school administrator can’t effectively deal with that. Now you have states like Tennessee, where I live , offering vouchers for families to pay for private school tuition. So it becomes an easy choice for a family. I completely understand the argument that public tax dollars shouldn’t subsidize someone’s private school education but the process has been deemed legal so you’re going to see more and more families choose that route. Two of the largest school systems in Tennessee, Knox Co (Knoxville) and Hamilton Co (Chattanooga) are both on hiring freezes due to so many students leaving. At some point the pendulum must swing back and lawmakers have to allow public schools to remove the 2% of kids who simply won’t comply with rules that disrupt the learning environments of the other 98%
@CoachWilliams22@Coach_Pfiester@IrwinTR1BE I’ve always used the term “Bleed it Dry”. Never carry more than four run schemes then use tags to keep it as consistent as possible for the OL and run it to every position and player you can
@TBlazer5AS1@CoachShiffman@CoachHenning75 Lemme scoop you on a wing hack. Lemon Pepper and dip it in some Teriyaki sauce. My time coaching in Georgia taught me a thing or three
27 yrs HC/OC experience from 1A to 7A at some of the top programs in TN & GA and a year in college at a D3. Couple of truths at every stop
1) Kids want to be coached and held accountable
2) Every school has their own set of warts
3) Didn’t see one scheme in college ball I hadn’t seen in high school
4) IMO the single biggest difference from HS to NCAA was the amount of prep and detail in the kicking game
5) I think each coach has to find their comfort zone in regard to work-life balance and the “warts” they want to deal with. I loved D3 ball and the lifestyle it offered but also love Friday night lights.
To each his own….
