Happy Birthday, Marc Daniels (@ucf_marcdaniels)!
This upcoming season will be his 32nd as the Voice of the Knights.
Hope you had a great day!
Here's an excerpt from a story in the 1999 UCF Football Yearbook, written by Scott Wallin:
Marc believes in UCF’s ability to grow. It’s been said Daniels has enough talent to leave the Orlando market and climb his way to the top. But UCF helps keep him here. He’d like to continue his relationship with the school and one day, as he puts it, “open the media guide and read ‘now entering his 20th year as voice of the Golden Knights...’”
“I could go somewhere else, not that everyone’s knocking, but I look at it this way: with UCF, I’ve had the chance to broadcast games at Lincoln, Neb., at Auburn, Ala., South Carolina, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech and the great season that comes up in ’99,” Daniels said. “In basketball, I’ve been to the NCAA Tournament, I’ve done games at Michigan State in packed houses, I’ve done games at Florida. That’s as good as it gets.
“The thing I love about UCF is there are still so many firsts out there: the first big football win, that first bowl game, that first big basketball win that’s going to come at someplace to get back to the tournament.”
Somewhere tonight, a young person will close their eyes have never heard once “I believe in you.” That absence is a wound we don’t talk about enough. What young people are starving for is not opportunity, but someone to believe in them.
One day how you loved, how you showed up, and what you refused to quit on will be the only thing that remains. That is your legacy. Build it like it matters, because it does.
