Young guards should study old tape of Kendall Marshall
Amazing how many guards over dribble
Hit the ball ahead, incentivize teammates to run hard, make perfect passes
Being a point guard is not as simple as dribbling the ball down the floor
I see many kids working out like a PRO when theres no need for it right now. Hella dribbles, hella isolation stuff like your Luka or James harden at the top of the key. Aint nobody playing like that. Work on catch & shoot. Catch & drive. Catch & pass & get it back. It TRANSLATES!
Pete Carroll says winning championships was never actually the point
“It isn’t about winning the championship. It’s not about that. As soon as you win it, it’s over with. It’s in your back pocket. You’ve already done that.”
“That’s not the motivator. The motivator is to be the best you can possibly be. That’s ongoing. It never ends. I’m not a big goals guy.”
“Goals, you achieve them. To me, I want ongoing, never-ending aspirations of being great at what you’re doing. There is no one game that is the only game. There is no one accomplishment that’s the only accomplishment.”
“Can you come back again? Is that really who you are? Is that worth fighting for?”
“Can you be true to yourself? Can you really be yourself under all circumstances? No matter what happens, when you get your ass whipped in the freaking Super Bowl, when you had two in a row and you’re two seconds from doing it again, can you come back after that moment and still be who you are?”
“That was what the challenge was to me. As hard as that looked, as hard as it felt, and as hard as it was on all the people around me, I took it like this: ‘Okay, you knew this was going to happen sometime.’ ‘Are you going to be the real deal or not?’”
Chris Paul says confidence isn’t a personality trait, it’s evidence you’ve put in the work:
“I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t confident because you have to be confident. And the only way that you get confident is you got to put in the work… You really have to put in the work. When you show up for that Spanish test or that math test and you look at the test and you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m good,’ it’s because you prepared.”

Matthew Dellavedova says you have to prepare like a psycho for an opportunity that you never know when it's coming
“It’s hard to make a team as an undrafted guy. And then to break into a rotation is even harder. You never know when your chance is going to come.”
“Mine was a sleepy Tuesday night in Washington. The starters were BSing. Down 20-something in the second quarter. Coach Mike Brown throws me in. We make a little run. Third quarter starters come out BSing again.”
“Mind you… I’d already done conditioning three hours before. I’d already had a hard workout with Phil Handy and Mike Gerrity. So I’m already cooked. But the adrenaline’s flowing. They throw me back in. I play the whole rest of the game. The game goes to OT. We end up winning. From then on, I’m in the rotation.”
“You have to be ready when your opportunity comes. And you have to be a little crazy. You have to prepare like a psycho so that when your opportunity comes, you’re ready to win.”
“It could be the second or third quarter of a crappy game on a Tuesday night. The coach looks all the way down the end and says get in. So I would be running back and forth during timeouts… Just staying warm.”
“Because I can’t go out there and have a couple possessions to warm up. I need to be ready. You get one shot… If you make that shot, then you go back in.”
