Mount Vernon 66
Marysville Pilchuck 55
Mount Vernon secured a 66–55 victory over Marysville Pilchuck on a dominate performance by Taran Hanjrah who finished with 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs.
Kingston Collins and Alex Ochoa-Garcia both added 9 points for MV. Ochoa-Garcia knocked down three 3-pointers to spark the Bulldogs.
“Alex came off the bench, hit three three-point shots in the second half,” Head Coach Torey Swanson said. “More important, his defense and energy was the difference for us tonight. Very excited for him and how he contributed to our team success.”
“Good team win for our guys going into a few days off,” Swanson added. “Pretty happy with where we are as a team right now. By no means have we scratched the surface of what we could be, but we are certainly getting better.”
The Bulldogs are 3-3 on the season.

Tonight is the 119th Battle of the Bridge between Mount Vernon and Burlington-Edison.
It is the 2nd longest rivalry game in Washington state behind Aberdeen and Hoquaim, who have played 120 games.
B-E leads the series 63-46-9
The First game was played in 1911.
MV went unbeaten from 1913-22 with 3 ties.
MV won 9 in a row from 1998-2006.
B-E won 8 in a row from 1983-1990.
Biggest blow out:
MV won 73-0 in 1918. Both teams played again later that season to a scoreless tie.
Biggest Game:
In 1971, Mount Vernon and Burlington-Edison were both 2A. Mount Vernon was ranked #2 in the state and had a 17 game winning streak. Burlington-Edison was ranked #3 and also undefeated. 8,500 people filled Kirkby Field with portable bleachers brought in to surround the entire field. The Tigers won 21-6. B-E played one more game and beat Pilchuck 73-0 to finish the season undefeated and were voted State Champions.
(No playoffs until 1977)
Last season, B-E won 21-14 and currently holds the Battle of the Bridge trophy.
Tonight, the 1-1 Tigers take on the 2-0 Bulldogs in what is expected to be a tough and physical game.
We hope you enjoyed this little piece of history about one of the best high school rivalries in WA state.
Only separated by a bridge, it’s B-E vs. MV!!!
I’ve argued this for decades
“I’d do it again for free for all the life lessons it taught me.”
There wasn’t one day in 4 years @UW_Football that I felt like I was taken advantage of. For 4 years I gained advantages for the rest of my life!
48% of high school athletes that specialized in one sport reported injuries that cost them playing time compared to only 24% from multi-sport athletes. Avoid burnout, avoid overuse injuries and focus on improving overall athleticism.
High School athletes should play multiple sports to become the best at their favorite sport.
