With our season coming to a close in the Southland Conference Tournament, I wanted to share a message of appreciation to our students, fans, alumni, family and friends for supporting us this season. We are grateful for you all!
Our team fought hard, stayed together, and found some success amid the adversity of a college basketball season. Despite seven scholarship players missing a combined 101 games due to injury, our team never gave in. We won 4 of our final 6 regular-season games to secure a tournament berth and extend our season.
As we continue to build something special here at Houston Christian University, we highlight some positives from our season:
✅ Picked 12th in Jeff Goodman’s Southland job rankings and finished tied for 7th.
✅ HCU is one of only 5 Southland teams with back-to-back bids to the SLC Tournament in 2025 & 2026
✅ Highest home attendance in 7 years
✅ Back-to-back winning seasons at home (first time since 2015-17)
✅ Team GPA of 3.17
✅ $150k in facility upgrades benefiting both women’s and men’s sports at HCU
Our goal is not only to continue exceeding projections, but also to raise expectations as we keep moving the needle. We will continue to work! The best is yet to come.
I close with a verse for everyone to reflect on as you go about your days and work with the talents you were blessed with. Continue to pour maximum energy into every task knowing the ultimate reward comes from God.
“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” -2 Chronicles 15:7
This week, my boss and longtime Houston Christian University Athletic Director Steve Moniaci officially handed the department off to his right-hand man, Stan Williamson. As Steve slides over to an executive position with the President, I reflect on the last two years we spent together.
Steve hired me at HCU in March of 2024 and brought our family down to Texas. For this, I will forever be grateful. Even more so, working with him was an honor. Steve is a man of great character, fiercely intelligent, and he has a great sense of humor. He is naturally empathetic and was able to successfully draw upon his 45+ years as an athletic administrator to guide coaches and lead our department effectively.
While I’ll miss working with Steve as my direct supervisor, his office actually moves across campus and will be closer to mine. We will continue to work on many projects together, including fundraising, facility enhancements, and beyond.
Our new athletic director, Stan Williamson, has already hit the ground running. Prior to his nearly nine years at HCU, Stan was the Athletic Director at Nicholls State, Campbell, and West Alabama. Like Steve, he is a man of great faith and proclaims it daily as a prayer leader with a vast knowledge of scripture. He is the perfect leader and a natural fit to succeed Steve as we continue to move the department forward into this new era of college athletics.
Progress being made—More work to be done!

Big win last night for our Houston Christian men’s basketball team!
We have now won five of our last six home games. Huge credit to our band, cheer, fans, football and other sports teams, faculty, staff, and alumni for helping make Sharp Gymnasium the toughest and loudest place to play in the Southland Conference!
We were down by 17 points tonight and our guys made a huge comeback to win the game. Home court advantage was in full effect with our fans, band, and football team going crazy for two straight hours. Sharp Gym was electric!
Houston Christian has won 3 of our last 4 games. We now go on the road for our next four games. It will be a battle. I am proud of our guys. Go Huskies!
Big win tonight to start off the conference season 1-0!
After losing a heartbreaker at University of North Texas on Tuesday our guys responded in a huge way with the Southland Conference road victory.
Another step in the right direction for our program. More work to be done! #DawgsUp
Proud of our guy Kylin Green! Averaging 7.7 APG so far this season. He’s tied for 6th in all of NCAA Division I among the top passing leaders.
Kylin dropped a career-high 13 dimes in our win last week over ULM. He has elite vision and teammates who can finish! #DawgsUp
Additionally, the year prior to our arrival at HCU, the school made capital upgrades with new flooring on our game court and practice courts and a new lighting system. This allowed us to focus on some of the main common areas of the building for our student-athletes and staff.
Over the past few months we have made substantial upgrades to our HCU facilities. Our student-athletes and staff have been enjoying the new look and feel. The upgrades include:
*New flooring for the offices, foyer, and players lounge
*A fueling station with cabinetry and granite countertops
*Branding, wraps, illuminated signage, decals, and accent walls
*Custom furniture from Dream Seat
*Personalized locker room LED screens
*Digital scorer’s tables from Sideline Interactive
The 2025-26 men’s basketball roster at Houston Christian University. Our guys clean up nice!
Our roster of 15 student-athletes represent eight states and three different countries.
We kick off our 31-game regular season schedule on November 3rd hosting Southern Arkansas in Houston before heading to California to play UC-San Diego on November 8th.
You can watch our games on ESPN+. Thanks for your support. Go Huskies!
