Just a reminder. Summer rules kick off tomorrow. 15 dates. Only 7 can be 7 on 7. Shoulder pads are only allowed for individuals at college camps on college campuses run by college coaches. No shoulder pads for team camps on college campuses. Four player rule becomes 7…….
“If you can throw for 500 yards on somebody, you’re probably going to win the game. But if you can run for 500, you’re guaranteed to win the game and it takes their soul.”
- Rich Rodriguez
Saying coaches are underpaid doesn’t mean they coach for money. It means their time, labor, and impact deserve to be valued better.
Two things can be true at once.
The difference between football programs that consistently thrive and those that struggle usually has less to do with talent — and more to do with alignment.
Programs that win at a high level typically have:
Administrative support
Community buy-in
Consistent investment
Unified expectations
Patience with development
When administration supports the football program, coaches can focus on building culture instead of fighting internal battles. That support shows up through:
Proper resources
Academic accountability
Facility improvements
Staff retention
Clear communication
Support during adversity, not just during winning seasons
Community support matters just as much. The strongest programs usually have:
Packed Friday nights
Youth programs connected to varsity culture
Businesses supporting athletes
Alumni involvement
Parents invested in the process
A town that takes pride in the program
Football programs struggle when coaches are forced to build alone.
Even talented teams can fail when:
Administration is disconnected
Parents undermine coaches
The community only shows up when the team wins
Resources are neglected
There’s no long-term vision
Thriving programs become ecosystems. Everyone pulls in the same direction.
That’s why some schools reload every year while others restart every year.
