Instead of asking “What are we doing on the 1st day of school?” ask”What are we doing that will make the 1st day so amazing students can’t wait until day 2? Traditional Q’s vs. Tranformative Q’s #LeadLAP
I have learned the value of learning real-life skills. I reflect back on my former students who are in the workforce and the unique challenges they face. Who know what crazy challenges our current students will face. Our teaching must prepare for these challenges #pd4uandme
Beautiful afternoon to start reading “Lead Like a Pirate” by @burgess_shelley and @BethHouf. A few takeaways so far: Know your passion/it’s okay if your not passionate about everything/love sticky note activity to examine importance of tasks vs how much time you spend #LeadLAP
Thanks to @Kim_Rygas and @MHawley_3 for a fantastic “Principals with Passion” webinar w: @radford_alumni! Great to see a admin team doing great things for students/teachers while having fun at the same time!
@cfanch A1: At the end of each project, we reflect on our mindset about the project process. Did we give up when things got tough? Did we acknowledge struggle is part of the process? Part of doing PBL is having the mindset that we can do this. #pblchat
A6: Choice leads to ownership. Most of our assignments we are providing in ELA are very wide open reading and writing opportunities. When students choose what they do, they are more invested in their learning #LearnLAP
A5: We are making a promotion video/slide show for our 6th graders. This is something we haven’t done before with our normal promotion. This will be great because it will be on YouTube and students can view it forever! #LearnLAP
A4: Honestly, I don’t think I’m keeping the students very engaged in learning. Our focus has been more on providing support and checking in with our students well being. Most engaging has been escape rooms and online review games #LearnLAP
A3: playing fun games during zoom meetings. Dance contest, show and tell, scavenger hunts. While your in the meeting it feels like we are back in class for just a little bit #LearnLAP
A2: We are doing our big 6th grade promotion in Drive-thru format. All teachers are gonna be spread out with signs and kids will be able to get out and take a quick pic. Also doing a slideshow with video clips from students and teachers #LearnLAP
