@Snz_BTC Capital markets will not allow an investment to maintain a 60-70% rate of return. Cost per mile will drop until Robotaxis yield something closer to 10%.
@alz_zyd_ Agree with you from a cash flow perspective, but I think from NPV over a lifecycle (as you're considering) we must consider the income and liability of someone joining the SS program both as variable. This is different from defense and interest expense.
@alz_zyd_ You might be overestimating fixed costs as a share of the budget. Education, Social Security, Medicare, welfare, etc. all scale with population. If we exclude defense spending and interest as fixed, the govt is approx breakeven. Gotta target subsidies to future high earners.
@Jesse_Livermore 26 U.S. § 1012 was passed in 1954. There was no longer term inflation to speak of in that gold standard era, only wartime shocks. Average inflation 1866-1954 was 0.6%.
@alz_zyd_ The 2022 downturn felt like the right response to rates. It's the past 4 years that surprises me. Likewise, the longstanding inverse correlation between gold and real rates broke down at this time.
@financialsamura This is my income and lifestyle (2 kids, private school, etc.). Where we deviate from this example is owning our $2M home without a mortgage, and sending our kids to an affordable private school of $10K/year x 2.
@jakebrowatzke Then I just continued in that direction, one milestone after another.
I learned humility and stewardship.
Now I have a family, a paid off house, and enough income to be work optional.
The scars have kept me humble and allowed me to build a sustainable life on my terms.
@jakebrowatzke I was in your position during 2008, a big debt hole caused by stock market losses. Thought my life was over.
For the past 18 years, I've built up slowly but steadily. I added value to society with my work, not by speculation.
Progress in getting out of debt was a north star...
@alz_zyd_ Knowledge is cheap, but direction is invaluable. Like you, college was defining for me, but that's because I entered planning to be an entrepreneur and left wanting to be a professor. These kids in tech and finance seem to know their path already.
@BankonomicsGuy@MichiganMattCPA It is easier to replace a $50K income with a $50K income if a job is lost than it is to replace a $300K income with a $300K income.
