Our Crab Teams are off to a great start 🦀 monitoring for invasive European Green Crab in Howe Sound.

So far, we've caught lots of native shore crabs, different kinds of fish, hundreds of jellyfish, and many other cool creatures!

Today’s species spotlight is Knotweeds. They are extremely destructive (growing up to 1 m into concrete) and are to be eradicated from Vancouver Island. Many municipalities & regional districts on the island cover the cost of Knotweed herbicide treatment. Please report sightings!

Today’s species spotlight is Milk Thistle. This is a species to eradicate from Vancouver Island. #MilkThistle prefers disturbed environments and has viable seeds for up to 9 years. It can be treated by hand pulling infestations (before they go to seed) or with use of glyphosate.

Today’s species spotlight is Garlic Mustard. Garlic Mustard is a species to eradicate on Vancouver Island.
Garlic Mustard lives in shady, moist environments. It can overtake the understory of forests, has small white flowers that bloom in May, and it can be hand-pulled.
