Fun fact: The new episode of @Newtonsdarkroom has virtually no compression or EQ, aside from a simple de-esser. I wanted to try my new Sennheiser MKH 416 which is an industry standard in film shoots and V.O. work. I’m very happy with how it sounded
But fear not! I have episode ideas lined up and some scripts already written. My priority is a couple of @CalislandTapes stuff right now, but after that we’ll get back into your feed!
This podcast is supposed to serve as a study guide for my tests. Well last week I was out sick and apparently everyone else was told about a test we had today. I didn’t know until I got to class which means I couldn’t study with an episode
@AliceWhiteTHP @AllusionistShow@99piorg @GoFactYourPod @Sawbones That was basically my reaction putting together that episode lol the MIDI episode is one of my favorites
Due to holidays, school, and getting sick, it’s been a while since we’ve put out an episode. But fear not! our next episode should be out next week. We’ll talk about the conversion from analog audio to digital and then the layout of a mixing board
The next episode is written but yet to be recorded due to some minor health issues. They’re finally clearing up though and we’re hoping to get he next episode to you all by next week!
MP3 is what we call a “lossy” file type. What that means is that the computer basically gets rid of every other piece of data. The result is something that sounds right the naked ear, but has a decrease in quality
@mythofiction The MP3’s however are permanent, you can’t change those. You’d be exporting and saving a lot of MP3’s for no real reason and that’s just extra storage being used up
@mythofiction But if you save the project folder, you have that flexibility still
If I have an Audition file, I can always go back to this audition file, open it up, and export it again with all the music muted. Or re-edit it, or mix it differently, or whatever
At the end of the day, you’re probably fine just making sure you save your project files. I can’t think of an advantage to saving MP3’s like that. You could always “save as” to make a copy of the project as a backup
The reason why we don’t just use WAVs for everything is that they take up MUCH more space on your computer.
They’re great for final exports, but if you are compulsively saving, they are going to fill up your storage very quickly
@starplanes I’m so glad you enjoy it! I’ve had a blast going through this series and it’s actually been pretty great at helping my study. It’s a win-win-win!
