I cracked 8 companies (including a YC startup) with almost a 100% interview success rate.
All odds were against me:
8 backlogs and a 1.43/10 GPA in my first year.
Zero experience in their tech stack.
Here’s what worked for me:
i) Stop focusing on your negatives:
I stopped apologizing for my grades and focused on my strengths.
If you don’t believe you’re a good fit, the interviewer won’t either.
ii) The “Deep Research” phase:
Before every interview, I spent hours researching the company.
Not just what they do, but how they do it.
Example: YC interview prep
They were building a CRM using Golang/Rust. I knew neither.
So I used AI to figure out the main engineering problems in a CRM.
Then I made a 48 hour target list:
- Async data pipelines
- Data transformation
- PostgreSQL basics (locks, race conditions)
- Vector search & JSONB
The result:
In the interview, I didn’t talk about my GPA.
I talked about their actual problems and how to solve them.
That’s the cheat code.
Focus on the company’s problems, not your weaknesses and you become hard to reject.
