I'm not denying that there are other factors at play in the decline of hedgehogs; nor that good things are happening on a growing number of farms (mostly because of the replacement of the appalling CAP with a new Environmental Land Management Scheme that requires good stewardship of the land).
But are you and I looking at the same country? Have you ever seen the countrysides of France, Spain, or Italy by comparison?
There's a reason why not just hedgehogs, but nearly all wildlife and bird species here, and especially farmland ones, have collapsed across Britain- it's because there is simply no provision made for them in our landscapes whatsoever. Scrub, wet areas, rough grassland, standing dead trees, these are all meticulously expunged from our farmed landscapes... Not to mention the deliberate and terrifying obliteration of insect populations with pesticides.
I spend my time in the southwest, where the overwhelming majority of the grassland is comprised of one or two species of highly commercial grass, dosed to high heaven with chemical fertilisers, not a flower in sight, and cut for silage in May before anything nesting within it has had a chance to raise a brood; all carved up with neat and boxy hedges without blossom in spring or berries in autumn.
What are the wild creatures meant to eat? Where can they find water or shelter in this giant manicured golf course of ours? You're living on a different planet. Thank goodness the public is waking up to all of this (silver lining of social media?)
@evanwch Do you think people want to live in the Cheesecake factory?
Do you think people think their seat of government looks like the Cheesecake factory?
@CharlieHowarth1 Vulture is another one they like to use, that tends to be people the owe money to and don’t intend to pay back. That the people the owe money to are “vultures” is the rational not to pay their debts.
Fairly sure they still owe the U.K. for the type 42 destroyers.
@zatzi Badgers don’t explain why hedgehogs turn up in rescues starving to death. With such a massive drop in population you’d expect there’s plenty of food to go around.
What there is a lot of are slugs and snails, which carry parasites and are starvation rations not a primary food.
@zatzi Hedgehog tend to end up at rescues starving, dehydrated and teeming with parasites. None of that is caused by badgers.
In theory their diets overlap, in the same way sheep and cattle both eat grass, but not the same, I expect it’s the same for badgers and hedgehogs. Hogs lack
@JockAyeTheNoo If it was a white man people wouldn’t have bothered going through their social media, and misrepresent what they found.
The claim being this was her as a trained firearms officer, rather than her before even applying.
@MichiganJustin Would criticise the guy who handed her the rifle without instruction. Mind you, it’s not nearly as dangerous those videos that keep cropping up of a gun novice being handed a large calibre revolver with 2 rounds loaded.
4/4
@MichiganJustin “Job faire” setting? No.
Is a 30 month old photo from before training valid criticism of her after training? No.
Do you think if a dude has won this award people would have bothered to go through his socials and misrepresent what they found?
As for the question of safety, I

@ammolab1 The closed bolt will want to rest on and push down on the top round. Correctly seating a full large capacity magazine is harder because of the compressed spring. Increasing capacity makes it even harder.
Also the space it takes up when shooting from prone. snail drums are bulky
@WARRENTSHOW@LeilaniDowding@metpoliceuk What more likely is the guy who’s running the “booth” and just handed her the rifle hasn’t provided her any instruction on gun safety.
@studaviesreform And you honestly think the dude who handed her the rifle in that moment instructed her on the basics of gun safety? Do you really think that‘s what happened?
it shouldn’t be too difficult to find the officer in question. If you’re going to fix something fix the correct thing.
@Doraharond Governments are usually elected in with less than 35% of the vote and less than 28% of the public voting for them. And your position is “you voted for it” when it’s about 1 in 4? I didn’t agree with that logic on 7/7, @nd its not changed
@Bearded_donkey_@Big_smoke010@nagletssklyarov I don't have a problem having a go at the guy who handed her the rifle without providing instruction.
But saying someone can't be trusted to follow instructions they haven't been given is a bit weird.
Do you assume these kids received correct instruction?
