JULY 2024 - #ClimateEmergency Album -295 images Take anything. We collectively keep the narrative alive . Thanks to all of you for the follow but mostly for caring about what is happening and sharing. You are my inspiration

After the Cold War, scientists & citizens campaigned for the establishment of a nuclear weapon non-prioliferation treaty. Years later, we are in the streets to advocate for a fossil fuel non-prioliferation treaty.

We now have video footage alongside systematic evidence that Israeli soldiers gang rape Palestinian captives and there is zero outrage from Western media. I am loosing my mind.
One of the reasons so many of us go on about climate change is because if you think this terrifying civil disorder and rioting is bad now, wait till the food supply starts being really affected by erratic weather. It seems no one in power can hear this. All this has got to be stopped or we are toast. Don’t take my word for it.
Almost half of scientists are willing to engage in protest or non-violent civil disobedience over climate change but aren't currently doing so
How do we change that?

1. What we are seeing all over social media now is flat denial of the very existence of the far right. Far right agitators claim to be simple “patriots”, defending their country. Which is just what far right agitators have said for the past century.🧵
Not the day after tomorrow: Why we can't predict the timing of climate tipping points https://t.co/BUgt6ZadZ0
Uncertainties too large to predict tipping times of major Earth system components from historical data - by Maya Ben-Yami et al. https://t.co/gea7imcMxS
“Before 2023, the global record was 102 spotted in a single year, 50 of them in Canada, says Mike Flannigan, who studies wildfires at Thompson Rivers University. During last year’s extremely active fire season, 140 were reported in Canada alone.” https://t.co/5ynpY5MGPX
Companies like ExxonMobil don't want you to know that this summer's brutal heatwave was Brought To You By Big Oil.
So we bought billboards in cities across America to make sure the public knows the truth.

Plenty of people were concerned about #climatechange in the years before 1970. “We discovered a universe of discussions by scientists, members of Congress, by members of the executive branch,” @NaomiOreskes said “and the more we looked, the more we found.”

Your 'doom quote' for today:
"It wasn't until the 1980's that scientists started to worry -- to think that the future was perhaps almost here -- and a few mavericks began to argue that anthropogenic climate change was actually already underway."

Greece 🇬🇷crops update as farmers’ irrigation reservoirs run out completely 💦and water pumping becomes too energy-intensive:
🚨 World- famous grapes 🍇 down 80% in Corinth
🚨Cotton 👕 down 30%
🚨Wheat 🌾 is decimated in the North of the country
This is your #foodapocalypse #ClimateCrisis
Nearly 1 in 4 members of Congress are owned by Big Oil. They deny reality as alarm grows in the US over global heating and extreme weather.
This isn’t just corruption, it’s a bonafide threat to our safety.

Degrowth Ecosocialism, (as radical needed) reducing large (per capita) economies down to whatever size can be maintained long term in an biosphere compatible way, and always putting ecological (such as rewilding) and egalitarian priorities first, is the only way forward
Your 'moment of doom' for Aug. 5, 2024 ~ Deny, delay, deflect ...
"The study concludes that uncertainties are too large to provide reliable estimates of major Earth system tipping elements, emphasizing the need for more robust data and understanding."

The extreme heat at the #Paris2024 Olympics would not have happened without climate change, researchers say. 📈
“If the atmosphere wasn’t overloaded with emissions from burning fossil fuel, Paris would have been about 3°C cooler and much safer for sport.”

Phoebe is being held on remand at the moment after spraying Heathrow terminals orange last week in desperation. Phoebe is more eloquent here that any politician or commentator. The failing media reports more on sport than our breaking down planet.
🎉 It's out! 🥳
In our new @NatureClimate paper we look at:
• How scientists perceive climate change and their role in tackling it;
• Their engagement beyond research;
• The barriers they face to getting more involved.
