Happy to say we have just submitted 3 projects for the #BooChallenge from CoderDojo Clonakilty - Abigail, Olan and Andrew did a great job and had great fun creating these over the last number of weeks...Hope to have a couple more completed by the 12th @CoderDojo
@CoderDojo A12. (2) Also each week I am amazed. Someone always does something really really smart or breath taking or emotionally moving or hysterically funny. And that’s what does it for me #chatdojo
@CoderDojo A12. I have learnt that no matter how much I try to plan a CoderDojo session it always goes pear shaped and in a direction I never expect in the absolute best possible way. #chatdojo
@CoderDojo National Scratch Competition @scratch_ie@coolestprojects of course 😉and @astro_pi - great for ninjas to see what other dojo’s are doing and have fun - it’s good to travel (even virtually 🚀) and well @coolestprojects is just a great day out !
@CoderDojo@ClonakiltyPark A7. (2) We have also been generously supported by @capitacs ⭐️ each year when they have sponsored awards for our annual Expo - As an aside we also have a #GirlsTeam working on a gamification project which we hope to present to Capita when complete
@CoderDojo We have not done any fundraising as we have been so fortunate that the @ClonakiltyPark have provided us with an amazing venue free of charge since we started. They are amazing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #chatdojo
@CoderDojo A10. We also encourage older kids to mentor a bit - we have had TY students return to mentor as part of Gaisce awards - it’s great to see them return to give something back. Also they really benefit from that experience #chatdojo
@CoderDojo A10. Tend to lose a lot going to secondary school Some still attend but we compete with pressure of school & other activities..we can now support more advanced coding but those that are really into it tend to be self sufficient (maybe that’s an achievement in itself 😉) #chatdojo
@CoderDojo Our #GirlsTable definitely encourages girls to come - it’s literally just a space for the girls to hang out and work together - they don’t have to sit there but it’s there if they want and there’s always a great buzz of creativity #simplesolutions#chatdojo
@CoderDojo CoderDojo is a great place for kids with different challenges - at @CoderDojoClon we are proud to be Autism Friendly Champions with @AsIAmIreland. Teaches us to be aware of different needs of our young coders & provide a space to chill when needed and shine when ready #chatdojo
@CoderDojo A2. Usually by time we start they have already got stuck into projects and just want to get on with it. Sometimes we run a tutorial but most of them ignore it and work away...although we do special activity nights with no laptops thanks to @wcullinane that works a treat #chatdojo
@CoderDojo As @liaonet did to me 8 year ago we just throw them into it and say go mentor 😉 best way to learn is by doing it and getting stuck in - the kids do all the hard work - sometimes all the kids need is a sounding board -someone to listen- we figure out the rest as we go ! #chatdojo
@CoderDojo One of the by products of mentoring is the accidental networking that occurs - parents from diverse backgrounds and skills come along and we all get to interact where everyone is on the same level - no hierarchy- CoderDojo is a great leveler and really sociable #chatdojo
@CoderDojo For volunteers mentoring is hugely rewarding - when you see kids develop and have those eureka moments it’s just fab ! They ask the most incredible questions sometimes #chatdojo
@CoderDojo If we had time we would do all courses we could but all our mentors are busy with jobs and family and so it’s difficult to find time to actually do any additional courses - we learn from each other and by seat of pants !! #chatdojo
@CoderDojo Some printed tutorials (all a bit out of date) but promoting online resources as much as we can now using CoderDojo raspberry pi resources #chatdojo
