I think we’ve glorified struggling alone so much that people are now embarrassed to admit they received help.
Everywhere you look, someone is proudly announcing that they started from absolutely nothing, nobody supported them, and they built everything themselves. True for some people though
But since when did having a support system make your success less impressive?
I’ll use myself as an example.
In 2020, while I was still a student, I invested NGN 18,000 in Ethereum, held it for over a year and eventually sold it for over $600.
Now, here’s something I don’t shy away from admitting: I could afford to take that risk because my father was providing for me.
I wasn’t worried about rent, feeding myself or supporting a family. If that investment had gone to zero, I would have been disappointed, but my basic needs would still have been covered.
That was a privilege, and I recognized it.
I also understood that the comfort I enjoyed as a student wouldn’t necessarily last forever. So rather than waste that season, I took advantage of it to learn, experiment and build skills that eventually changed the direction of my life.
And this is something I wish more young people understood.
Your comfort zone isn’t always something you need to escape. Sometimes, it’s something you need to leverage.
Your support system might be your parents, your partner, your siblings, a job that pays your bills while you build your business, or even the relationships and opportunities your natural advantages give you access to.
Whatever it is, there’s nothing shameful about acknowledging it.
Of course, some people genuinely have to figure things out with very little support, and their experiences deserve recognition too.
But you don’t need to manufacture hardship to make your achievements more respectable.
If you’re fortunate enough to have stability right now, use it wisely. Learn that skill, develop that idea, build your network, start preparing for the business you’ve been postponing and take calculated risks while you have some room to make mistakes.
You don’t have to suffer unnecessarily to prove that you deserve success.
And if someone helped you along the way, give them their flowers 💐. It doesn’t take anything away from what you’ve accomplished.
The hidden truth nobody tells traders who are still chasing financial freedom.
“Get a job”
Trading doesn’t have to be your only source of income while you’re building.
Pay your bills. Build your skills. Protect your capital. Trade without the pressure of needing the next trade to save you.
Financial freedom is the goal but you don’t have to rush the process.
