Codex CLI 0.163.0 is out!
Highlights:
- Send follow-ups while Codex is responding to steer it immediately; interrupting a turn also stops active Code Mode cells and nested tool calls.
- /config now searches preferences across categories, applies supported settings live, and indicates which changes require a restart.
- Independent read-only tools — skill, memory, and conversation-history lookups — can now run in parallel.
- Daybreak is enabled by default for eligible accounts; codex exec can also select it with an OpenAI API key.

Shell executor:
- Codex now uses its standard shell executor; the patched zsh backend is removed. Configurations using retired shell flags receive a migration notice.
- Linux and macOS release package size reduced by stripping symbols from packaged binaries while preserving them in build outputs.
Codex update: GPT-5.5 retirement in Codex
What changed:
• GPT-5.5 retires from Codex for ChatGPT-authenticated users on October 14, 2026 at noon PDT (19:00 UTC).
• OpenAI API and API-key-authenticated Codex sessions are unaffected.
• Migrate to gpt-6.1-sol where available and update any configurations, agents, or scripts that reference gpt-5.5.
Details in thread.
What to update:
- Audit and update workspace defaults, saved model settings, managed configurations, custom agents, scheduled tasks, and any scripts that still select gpt-5.5.
- See the GPT-5.5 retirement page for plan-specific replacements, and the workspace model availability page for administrator guidance.
Bug fixes:
- Fixed a TUI crash when async questions contain multiple lines; line breaks and hyperlink destinations are now preserved.
- Fixed startup failures when a running background server's feature settings differ from CLI defaults; compatibility checks now apply only to explicit command-line feature overrides.
Codex CLI 0.162.0 is out!
Highlights:

- Tools for creating and listing managed Git worktrees from trusted local projects are available when the worktrees feature is enabled.
- Tasks can be pinned in the agent Command Center with `p` and kept in a shared Pinned group when supported by the server.
- apply_patch now preserves existing CRLF line endings unconditionally.
