Yesterday i prototyped 3 apps that would've been almost impossible a year ago.
A gift finder, a price comparison tool, and a shop-the-look feature.
All 3 search every Shopify store at once to find the best products.

this looks like a screensaver. i sold it for a few thousand.
it's a vector database. search by meaning, not keywords. every question becomes a point in space, and you pull the closest matches.
turned it into a paid client service. zero code written.

An automation follows steps you wrote in advance.
It breaks if something unexpected shows up.
An agent gets a goal and the tools.
It decides the steps in real time.

my Shopify app journey:
1. turn 17 and start Shopify dropshipping store
2. go to college for comp sci, drop out after a year to learn to code on my own
3. need some way to make money, remember Shopify apps from dropshipping days
4. watch @Coding_with_Jan interview with @DsMatie
4.1. Find out that Shopify apps do $1B revenue per year??
5. Fork Shopify app Remix template and just figure it out (started from basically zero, comp sci wasn't helpful)
6. Try to make an auto blog formatting app (6 months), no one knew what it did
7. Almost ran out of money, sold dropshipping store for runway (3 years after starting it)
8. Try to make WYSIWYG blog editor app, failed bc spaghetti code was too buggy (6 months)
9. Start Affilitrak, publish MVP and develop in prod
10. Get BFS, make app free, many people install
11. Provide good support, people leave reviews
12. Finally add paid plan 1 year and 3 months after starting
13. MRR grows but slowly, working on it
It's been 2.5 years since I dropped out to work on Shopify apps. I'm happy with how it's gone, I don't think I would do anything differently.
My ex-boss Patrick.
Worked 2 years at his Shopify Agency.
Then left to pursue my own thing.
He supported me all the way.
We're Still friends to this date.
That's real leadership.
Cheers ๐
Sat down with Helder from Skrey, a 37-person Shopify agency based in Portugal.
We talked about building an agency in an expanding market.
