Concerns have been raised over the conduct of a prosecutor who failed to appear in court during the bail application of taxi boss Joe “Ferrari”
Sibanyoni and his three co-accused today.

As a result of the prosecutor’s non-appearance, the magistrate struck the matter from the roll, leading to the release of the accused, who faced extortion and money laundering charges.

The NPA needs to urgently investigate the circumstances surrounding the prosecutor’s absence. He has been found in contempt of court.

Police seek public help to identify suspects in Camps Bay murder 🚨

Cape Town police are asking the public for assistance in identifying two persons of interest linked to the murder of 86-year-old Gerhard Ernst Kopatz, who was found dead at his home in Camps Bay.

Kopatz was reportedly assaulted, tied up, and strangled. Two cellphones, a laptop, and his bank cards were taken from the house.

Neighbours last saw him alive on 28 December 2025 at around 3:45pm. Street surveillance footage shows two unknown men leaving the property at approximately 4pm.

According to South African Police Service spokesperson FC van Wyk, the men’s identities are still unknown and they are considered persons of interest who may assist investigators.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the investigating officer, Adrian Pretorius, on 082 777 8499, or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
