@AdrianoAguzzi I agree that ideally this practice of censoring gene names shouldn't be done, as it limits scientific communication. However, the unfortunately pervasive threat of being scooped is one of the drivers of this. In my experience nost academics are quite sympathetic to this.
@AdrianoAguzzi There are instances of this in which PhD students are given an ultimatum by their supervisors: censor the genes, or miss out on the opportunity to present at an academic conference. Perhaps this also occurs for postdocs too, although likely less frequently.
@JDHaltigan I think I must have my terms mixed up because I was thinking about the social role in education and active learning. Think I've confused constructivism and constructionism?
@CSabatzki@Miss_Snuffy Well in the sense that many cannot write effectively. Many essays submitted read like first drafts: E.g. Spelling mistakes and grammatical errors are common. Sentences do not necessarily logical flow from one to another. Etc.
@Miss_Snuffy@CSabatzki Witnessing the same thing at university. I've suggested a compulsory writing skills course for all students. Are there other ways to fix this?
