7. To conclude, NFT space has a huge potential to change our future, but while we're adjusting to it, it's important to take the necessary steps to protect yourself from those who abuse it. Always read what you sign, this rule works irl too! Stay safe🔐
6.The safest marketplaces are considered to be Opensea, Axie, and Rarible. However, even these are not 100% protected from hacks. Just recently, Opensea was hit by a phishing attack and at least 32 users had lost their valuable NFTs worth $1.7 million.
5.Look out for rug pulls when taking part in NFT drops. It's pretty common for developers to create a collection and abandon the project once they get the funds from the public sale, leaving the buyers with worthless NFTs. (We'll explain how to spot a rug in a different thread)
4.Always ignore DMs that say you've won something or ask you to buy/claim something. If it looks to good to be true, it is. Just block and report them bastards and don't click any links! No legit project will ever DM you first.
3.If you want to go further, you may get a cold storage wallet such as Ledger. It will cost you around $50-$150 but it will keep your assets away from scammers and hackers. Note that you'll need to connect and decrypt it every time you want to transact with the blockchain.
2.Even though wallets are pretty safe, a small chance of getting hacked is still there. To minimise the risk, create a complex password that will include lower/upper case, letters and numbers. You may as well use a VPN to hide your IP address and encrypt your internet traffic.
1.Aim to store your assets in a non-custodial wallet, such as Metamask or BSC instead of using an exchange or a marketplace. Wallets are secured by a 12-24 word seed phrase that you must keep to yourself only and maybe write it down on a piece of paper and store in a safe place.
With numerous hacker attacks on NFT marketplaces and community platforms, protecting your digital assets is now more important than ever.
We've prepared a checklist on how to minimise the risk of being hacked.
