Author of two books:
SEC Football: How a Regional League Became a National Obsession
And
BYU vs Utah: A Decade of Drama
Both available on Amazon (link below!)
3 weeks from kickoff…Summer 📖 #19 is SEC FOOTBALL: HOW A REGIONAL LEAGUE BECAME A NATIONAL OBSESSION by @ColbNewton (well written/well researched) “I don’t think people really understand that recruiting never sleeps” “This year’s accomplishments are next year’s expectations”
I don’t know how many times this needs to be said but apparently several more.
If a “super league” happens it won’t be a joining of the Big Ten and SEC. It will be the top schools in those leagues leaving and forming their own entity.
We, as a society, have taken two-factor authentication too far. Logging into my bank account and into my Chipotle account shouldn't be the same process.
Was 1995-2005 the peak of CFB?
- 11 different national champs
- Strong conferences & regionality
- Jackson, Musburger, Verne etc throwing heat
- Last pre-smart phone + social media era
I'm always tickled that people still bring up my book "Bowls, Polls and Tattered Souls" after all these years.
It recently came to my attention that, 19 years later, it's now available as an audiobook.
Never read it? Good news: You don't have to.

How many of you remember or know the story of the last time the @CalMBBall went to the Sweet 16? They were led by a football player that ended up in the HOF!
I wrote about it here: https://t.co/IGpM2yD0HX

Congrats @MattBarrie on the new gig hosting SEC Nation! I wrote a book published by Bloomsbury about the SEC and how it became the obsession of CFB fans everywhere. It was endorsed by Sean McDonough, Stewart Mandel, and Verne Lundquist. I’d love to send you a free copy, DM me if you are interested!
Have been screaming for years that college football needed to grab this window. P12 and B12 especially. Massive viewership opp but tricky logistics and HCs resist. But again, they are not inclined to do what's best for the game and should be removed from decision process.
CFB misses out again by not being forward thinking. Pretty sure @wilnerhotline has been advocating a conference (Pac 12 - hello) take advantage of this night for years
