Funnels won't save you.
Here's why:
Everyone obsesses over funnel structure.
The steps, the templates, the "proven" frameworks.
Let me save you spending money on other funnel gurus’ latest product…
Traffic → Landing page → Opt-in → Offer → Upsell → Checkout.
That’s pretty much what every funnel on earth looks like.
The structure and steps of a funnel are not the secret.
That's just the skeleton.
What actually makes a funnel work is way more complex:
The copy.
Does your message speak to real pain points and hook in your target market from the very first line?
The messaging.
Are you using language your audience actually uses or corporate jargon they have to decode?
The offer.
Is it a proven product that consistently delivers the outcomes and solutions you promise??
The positioning.
Are you standing out or blending in with 47 other people selling the exact same thing?
The problem.
Are you solving a problem the market is dying to fix, or something you’ve convinced yourself people want?
This is the hard stuff.
The stuff that requires actual market research….
Conversations with real customers, testing, iteration, thinking.
Don’t get me wrong, you can scale your business to the moon with a good funnel.
But it’s not as simple as chucking some AI copy into a GHL page.

You're not selling what you think you're selling.
Big brands figured this out years ago.
They don't move products, they move emotions.
How many Coke ads focus on the liquid itself?
Barely any.
It’s all about friendship, connection, hanging out, having a laugh.
Your coaching business is the same.
Eugene Schwartz said it best:
People buy with emotion, then justify with logic.
The feeling makes them say yes.
The facts are what they explain to their spouse the next day.
You need both, but emotion is the trigger.
A lot of coaching and business owners get this wrong.
They sell the surface-level thing.
"I help you lose weight." "I help you get more clients." "I help you make more money."
Okay. But what does that actually give someone?
You're not selling a diet plan.
You're selling feeling confident in your clothes again.
You're not selling "get more clients."
You're selling status and accomplishment.
These deeper emotions and needs are what get people over the line.
So dig deeper into your customer research.
Talk to your clients.
Find out what's really motivating them to make a change.
Not the surface benefit, the thing underneath that.
Uncover the hidden motivations of your target market and lead with it in your marketing.
Sell the emotion and back it up with logic.
This is what makes someone stop scrolling and actually pay attention.

The subject lines below are banned in 13 states and 7 countries. Use wisely.
Just kidding.
But you clicked 'see more' right?
That's the power of an unskippable opener.
And while I don't advise bait-and-switch lines like I just used…
Here are 7 UNSKIPPABLE subject line formulas that will get your email opened:
1. The Proof Drop
[Number] [thing] that [desirable outcome]
Example: "3 emails that booked me 47 calls last month"
2. The Ultimatum
[Do this] or [negative consequence]
Example: "Fix your deliverability or watch your list die"
3. The Personal Tap
[Name], quick question about [their specific pain]
Example: "Sarah, quick question about your open rates"
4. The Counterintuitive Win
I just [action] and [surprising result]
Example: "I just deleted 2,000 subscribers and revenue went up"
5. The Time-Stamped Reveal
[Timeframe]: [specific outcome/lesson]
Example: "Tuesday 3PM: Why your emails land in spam"
6. The Lazy Genius
The [adjective] way to [outcome] without [common objection]
Example: "The lazy way to write emails without hiring a copywriter"
7. The Permission Slip
[Stop/Start] [action] if you want [specific result]
Example: "Stop personalizing subject lines if you want better opens"
Now here's the thing:
You could manually write these every time.
Or you could let my Subject Line Generator do it for you.
I trained an AI bot on these exact formulas…
Then I added 100 years of proven marketing psychology…
Then I stirred in a healthy dose of my own experience after generating $4M in email revenue.
All you do is paste your email into the box, and it delivers.
9 proven subject line variations in 30 seconds.
No guesswork, or chasing ChatGPT round in circles just to get generic AI slop.

High-ticket clients don't pull out their credit cards for a program… they buy the transformation.
Ross Ruffino nailed this:
Low-ticket offers are impulse buys.
You just need curiosity and a little urgency.
At $97, people will take a chance.
High-ticket is a totally different game.
People are not making decisions based on what’s in your modules or your unique mechanism.
The purchasing decision is based on:
1. Do they want the outcome you're promising?
2. Do they believe you can make the outcome a reality for them?
This is what you need to point the sharp end of your persuasion towards.
But it’s also the part most coaches screw up their marketing.
They sell features or benefits.
"I'll teach you how to lose 20 pounds in 60 days."
Okay. That's a benefit… Better than a feature…
But what does that actually mean for someone's life?
Instead, sell the outcome, the person they will be on the other side.
You're going to feel confident in your clothes again.
You'll have the energy to play with your kids without getting winded.
You'll stop avoiding photos.
You'll finally book that beach trip you've been putting off for three years.
The modules, features, and 12-step framework bore people to death.
Nobody cares about the mechanism until they're already sold on the transformation.
So skip the "what" and go straight to the "what does this mean for you."
Paint the picture.
Show them what their life looks like two years from now if they take action today.
Sell the transformation, and your ability to deliver it, and you'll convert strangers into clients.

One of the best copywriting lessons I ever learned was about "Dimensionalisation."
Shout out Shiv Shetti, who taught me this phrase over 3 years ago.
I think of it nearly every day when I'm creating marketing campaigns.
I think of it like peeling the layers of an onion.
You can always go a level deeper when you're appealing to the emotions of your reader.
And the deeper you go, the closer you get to their core motivations.
You get there by simply asking 'why'
Think of a weight loss offer for example.
Your clients want to lose weight.
Why?
So they can have more energy.
Why?
So they can play with their kids more.
Why?
Because when they were young they loved playing catch with their father, but he always ended the game too soon.
So instead of writing, 'how great would it be to lose weight in the next 90 days'...
You write:
'How great would it be to never say no to your children when they want to play catch or go for a bike ride because?'
This is how you turn surface-level benefits into rich emotional truth.
Most copy stops at the first layer.
"Get a promotion." "Make more money." "Get more clients."
But your readers don't actually want those things.
They want what those things give them.
Promotion = respect in the peer group.
More money = attract a better partner.
Get more clients = prove their doubters wrong.
Go deeper.
Keep asking why.
Peel back the layers until you hit something real.
That’s where the powerful, resonant, emotionally compelling copy is found..

7 Things to Do If You Want Your Copy to Actually Convert
Your "creative" copywriting is just confusing people.
I see coaches overthink their messaging and end up with flowery nonsense like
"We guide ambitious entrepreneurs on transformative journeys toward authentic alignment."
What does that even mean?
Nobody knows.
And they're not going to stick around to figure it out.
People don't want poetic copy.
They want to know what you do and how it helps them.
Here's how to write copy that actually converts:
1. Lead with the outcome, not the process
Don't tell them about your "holistic framework" or "proprietary methodology."
Tell them what they get:
"Book 10 qualified sales calls per month" beats "Leverage our strategic outreach system."
2. Use their words, not yours
Your audience doesn't talk like a marketing brochure.
They say "I'm stuck" not "experiencing transformation resistance."
Match their language, and they'll feel seen and understood.
3. Make it impossible to misunderstand
If someone can't figure out what they get from you in 3 seconds, they're gone.
Test your copy on someone outside your industry. If they're confused, your potential clients definitely are.
4. Cut the fluff
Every sentence should answer "so what?" for the reader.
If it doesn't move them closer to understanding the value, delete it.
5. Be specific, not vague
"Increase revenue" is generic.
"Add $15k in monthly recurring revenue in 90 days" is specific.
Specificity builds credibility, vagueness builds skepticism.
6. Focus on benefits, not features
Nobody cares that you have "12 modules and lifetime access."
They care that they'll finally get that promotion, or lose weight, or gain financial freedom.
Translate every feature into "here's what this does for you."
7. Read it out loud
If it sounds awkward when you say it, it'll read awkward too.
Your copy should sound like a smart conversation, not a corporate memo.
If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't write it.
The bottom line is this:
Copy is there to tell your audience how you can improve their life.
It’s not for stroking your own ego.
Stay awesome,
Colby

You just drafted a piece of copy for an email or content, and it's garbage.
What's next?
First off, congratulations.
You now know how every copywriter feels 5 days a week 😂
Second, don't sweat it.
All good copy starts as a hot, stanky mess and gets polished into something good.
The real juice is squeezed out during the editing process.
Here's how to turn that mess into something that actually converts:
1️⃣ Write long, cut ruthlessly
Your first draft should be way too long.
Get everything out, spill your heart on the page.
Then cut one-third of it.
Then cut another third.
The goal isn’t a specific length, but total clarity of thought.
When 99% of people are skimming your copy, every word needs to earn its place.
Anything that doesn't push your sales argument forward gets cut.
Smash that delete button and be brutal with your backspace.
2️⃣ Back up everything with specifics
Vague claims make your copy fluffier than Victoria sponge.
Logic solidifies arguments.
Numbers and facts build credibility.
"We help coaches get more clients" is weak.
"We helped 47 coaches book an average of 23 qualified calls in 90 days" is proof.
Your reader is skeptical by default.
Give them something concrete to believe in.
Draw them in with emotion, but close the deal on foolproof logic.
3️⃣ Don't bury the lead
Somewhere in your dumpster pile draft shines a rare gem.
The juiciest, most attention-grabbing thing you wrote goes front and centre.
Burying the lead halfway down the page is the most committed crime in marketing.
You'll usually find this line during editing.
You dump everything on the page, then realize one sentence captures exactly what you're trying to say.
Move it to the opening.
Start strong, then build from there.
Remember, if you don’t hook them in line one, they’re not going to make it to line 85.
The difference between amateur copy and professional copy isn't the first draft.
It's what you do in the editing room.
That's where turds get polished into gold.
So write messy, edit ruthlessly, and watch your conversion rates climb.
Or just hire a copywriter to run the gauntlet of pain and self-doubt for you 😂

The #1 mistake that tanks email conversion rates (and everyone does it).
It’s probably killing retention on your social media too.
It goes like this:
I see coaches and founders cram multiple ideas into one email.
They think that more value = better response.
But it doesn't work that way.
The best emails have one thread.
One clear idea from start to finish.
Open with it, close with it, and everything in between supports it.
Most emails fall apart because they introduce too many points.
You start talking about one thing, then pivot to another angle, then bring in a third idea halfway through.
Remember, people scan-read your emails.
Anything that takes more than a split second to compute stops the scan dead.
It only takes one misplaced line to lose the narrative thread.
And the second they get lost, they're done reading.
In copy and marketing in general, retention is everything.
You need people reading every line all the way down to your CTA.
With email, you have one or two minutes of your readers' attention, max.
You don't have time to explore multiple themes.
Pick one big idea, make your point clear and concise, and get out.
You don’t have to dumb things down.
But you do need to respect your reader's time and brain power.
Simplicity wins.
One clear thread from your subject line to your hook to your close.
When those three align perfectly, this is when emails convert 👌🏽

3 reasons why you should write sales copy like you're DMing your bestie.
Most coaches filter their real personality when they're writing copy.
They think good copy = professional and formal.
But that isn't what actually connects with your audience.
Most of the time, it feels stiff, awkward, and distant.
But when someone talks to you like a real human…
With personality, quirks, and emotion…
The connection is instant.
Here’s why putting your soul on the page is better than trying to sound "professional":
1️⃣ Your messaging doesn't get watered down
When you write for everyone, you connect with no one.
Trying to please a broad audience kills individuality.
Write for one person - someone who actually gets you - and your copy suddenly has an edge.
2️⃣ You stand out from all the marketing noise
People get bombarded with corporate speak and AI-generated garbage all day.
If you want your message to feel real, you need personality.
Your personality.
The weird, unfiltered version of you that doesn't fit in a template.
That's what makes people stop scrolling and remember who you are.
3️⃣ You attract people you actually want to work with
If you're a coach or someone who works directly with your clients, putting your real personality out there filters for the right people.
Nothing is worse than working with people who aren’t your vibe.
You don't want clients who resonate with some made-up version of you.
You want people who connect with the actual human behind the business.
Write like you're talking to someone over coffee.
Like you're explaining something to a friend.
The rawness, the emotion, the real you - that's what people actually connect with.

The prettier your emails look, the more likely they're landing in spam.
Sounds backwards, but it's true.
Inbox algorithms have been trained on billions of emails.
Their job is to spot the difference between personal messages and marketing.
Branded headers, colorful graphics, and multiple buttons are great at drawing the click from your readers.
But the algorithm sees these and flags your email as promotional.
Which means they land nowhere near your subscribers' primary inbox.
Think about the emails you open, read, and reply to from people you know.
They're simple, text-based messages with no frills.
That’s how emails from your mom or your work colleagues land in primary.
When they look professional, they get filtered.
But there's a trade-off here.
Pretty, well-designed emails with images get higher click rates, but they tank your open rates
Plain text emails land in the primary inbox…
But you have to do all your selling with words, not visuals.
For e-commerce businesses selling jewelry, clothes, or anything visual, images might be worth the sacrifice.
People want to see the product.
But for coaches and service businesses?
There's no reason to use images or HTML at all.
I stick to plain text when I write for my clients.
No HTML, no templates, barely even a GIF or image.
The trade-off is that you need to be good at writing.
Emotional hooks, storytelling, and persuasive arguments…
All the stuff that makes good copy work convert.
So what’s your choice?
Convincing with words, or design heavy emails that look pretty on the eye?

Here's why your follower count on social media is a complete vanity metric.
You can have 10k or even 100k followers, but your posts still get 200 views.
Why?
Because the algorithm decides who sees your content, not your follower count.
Every post needs perfect engagement, perfect timing, and a perfect hook.
If you're not consistently putting out content the platform loves...
You're buried.
Even your own followers won't see it.
That's why smart business owners push to convert followers into email subscribers.
Email doesn't depend on the algorithm.
You hit send, and it lands in their inbox, no matter what content you create.
You don’t need a perfect hook or instant engagement.
Social media makes you perform for reach.
Email just gives it to you.
That's the difference between renting your audience and owning it.
So how do you get social media followers onto your email list?
Three simple steps:
1️⃣ Offer something valuable.
A free guide, template, checklist, or training that solves a real problem they have.
Make it good enough that trading their email feels worth it.
2️⃣ Put the opt-in everywhere.
Bio link. Pinned post. Story highlights. End of every piece of content.
Make it impossible to miss.
3️⃣ Tell them why. Don't just say "join my email list."
Tell them what they get that they can't get on social.
Exclusive insights, first access, actual value they won't find scrolling the feed.
Once you do this, you’ll build an inner circle audience.
They’re more qualified, have higher intent, and are easier to contact without having to make TikTok dances or cringe trends.

These 3 tips will turbocharge your email open rates (and subject lines aren’t one of them)
Listen…
Stop wasting your time on subject lines if you haven’t fixed these three things.
They are like that one annoying guy in the group project, who does no work but gets all the credit.
Yes, they are important.
But they're not the #1 factor in what actually controls whether your email gets seen.
These three things matter more than any hook you write:
1. Deliverability.
Are you landing in primary inbox or buried in promotions?
Is your domain getting flagged by spam filters?
If you're in the spam folder, Don Draper himself couldn’t get your email opened.
2. Segmentation.
Send to your entire list, and you might get 20-30% opens.
Send to a tight segment of engaged subscribers, and you'll hit 50%+.
Same email, same subject line, same offer, but totally different result.
3. Automation.
The right message, to the right person, at the right time beats a clever subject line every time.
Send an upsell email 30 seconds after someone just bought your product…
I guarantee you’ll get upwards of 75% opens.
So yes, subject lines matter.
They frame your email, they create the click.
But they don’t mean jack if your email infrastructure is broken
If your emails aren't reaching inboxes, you're polishing a headline nobody sees.
Fix deliverability first…
Segment your second list…
Then worry about the subject line.

Consistent 80% open rates are impossible, right?
Wrong.
WhatsApp messages hit these numbers daily, while email struggles to crack 20%.
So should we all give up on email marketing entirely and only capture phone numbers?
No quite.
Open rates don't tell the whole story.
WhatsApp and SMS are interruption channels.
Most people get an active push notification when they receive these messages.
Which is great for getting opens.
But it also means you’re increasing the risk of annoying the hell out of your audience.
Send something irrelevant or too often, and you're not just ignored—you're blocked.
Email's different.
It gives you space to educate, tell a story, and handle objections.
People check it when they're ready to engage.
WhatsApp works for the close, the quick action.
The "click this link right now" moment when they're already warm.
So here’s my strategy….
Use email to do the heavy lifting—warming people up, telling stories, breaking down objections.
WhatsApp or SMS is the tap on the shoulder when they're ready to move.
75% of copywriting is just hitting Enter.
Sounds stupid, but it's true.
The less mental effort it takes to read, the higher your retention and conversion rates will be.
Your brain wants an easy life.
As soon as it sees a thick chunk of text, it checks out.
But when there's white space, line breaks, and clean formatting…
Your eye glides through it.
Short sentences.
Short words.
Lots of breathing room.
(See what I did there 😉)
One of the first rules of copywriting is to write at a fourth-grade reading level.
Not because people are dumb.
But because clarity wins every time.
Readability matters even more in email marketing.
People are flying through their inbox.
If your email looks like a college essay, they're gone.
Dense paragraphs, long words, and confusing structure need editing out.
You want your message to land fast.
Crystal clear and zero friction.
Save the heavy explaining for later in the funnel when people have higher intent.
In email and social media content, you have one mission:
Make it so easy to read, they don't even realize they're reading.
#copywriting #emailmarketing #emailcopywriting #copywritingtips #directresponse #salesemails #foryoupage #explore #fyp
Writer's block isn't real. You just haven't done enough research yet.
Gary Halbert said to forget grammar on your first draft…
Just dump every idea, benefit, feature, and angle onto the page. Then edit backward.
Great advice.
But there’s a deeper problem here that most people overlook.
If you're staring at a blank page with nothing to dump, this doesn’t mean you’re bad at writing copy.
It means you have a research problem.
I've written hundreds of email campaigns.
Every time I feel stuck, it's the same issue—I don't know the audience well enough yet.
You can't write compelling copy if you don't know:
Who you're talking to
What they're afraid of
What they want more than anything
Why they haven't bought yet
Once you get crystal clear on these four things, the copy writes itself.
You're not inventing messaging out of thin air; you're translating their pain and desire into words that make them move.
Example:
Your target market is busy moms who want to lose weight without spending 3 hours a day in the gym.
That’s pretty much a finished headline right there.
This is why research isn't a step you skip…
It's 90% of writing compelling copy, and is the core of every piece of content you put out to the world.
So get busy tapping into your customer's brain.
