HELP FOR PETS | The Maui Humane Society is asking the community to help in any way they can in an effort to protect the animals who were impacted by the wildfires on the island. Here's what you need to know! https://t.co/JLaKj4CEAh
In bookstores I’ll pick out something I’ve never heard of and resist the urge to Google before reading. This usually works out well.
But it has never worked out better than Our Wives Under the Sea. It’s my new favorite book. When I die, at least I will have read this book.
I’ve seen multiple tweets today from people who think they are pro-artist saying, “No one would use this except the hacks who write [insert disrespected genre of choice].”
Kindly, get over yourself.
I'm not worried about algorithms replacing artists, that's absurd. I'm worried that the ruling class would rather burn the arts to the ground than actually respect the working artists they rely on for their wealth.
“‘I would love to get to a place where we could have a totally opt-in model and everyone is compensated for that,’ says Yu, ‘I just don’t think that’s possible right now.’
Yu says that if people were able to opt out at scale, then the models would become noticeably worse.”

Sudowrite, a tool that uses OpenAI’s GPT-3, was found to have understood a sexual act known only to a specific online community of Omegaverse writers. https://t.co/q01jBhwY8J
@SequoiaN I’m honestly sad. I feel guilty. Poor plants. I understand that it’s hard to move around them, but they are living things. Not furniture. My dad painted houses for a living, and I really don’t recall him killing plants on the daily growing up, so I feel like this was avoidable.
The generator was prompted to use “literary, lush, whimsical” prose. I wouldn’t use those words to describe what it spat out. The synopsis does not provide much of a coherent plot summary. That this thing is both so boring and so infuriating is the true accomplishment.
“at the service of writers and artists” is in the bio of the person releasing this mid-strike.
The text generated is formulaic by intent, and it reads that way. Mediocre and bland. But I don’t expect bland mediocrity to stop publishers from trying to use this to not pay writers.
Today's a big day for Sudowrite. We're launching Story Engine, an AI tool for writing long-form stories.
Our awesome team worked with hundreds of novelists for months to build the ideal interface for writers and machines to collaborate on a narrative.
It is infuriating that this job-stealing “tool” is made possible by the stolen copyrighted work of real people, scraped and reassembled and made unrecognizable before finally being regurgitated by a plagiarism machine.

Ralph Paul Yarl was picking up his two siblings. He went to the wrong house in Kansas City, Missouri. The White man who opened the door did not see a lost 16-year-old boy. He saw a threat. Shot Ralph, twice. Once in the head to kill him. Somehow Ralph survived. 1/
I’m watching Succession for the first time, and last night I saw this scene. Greg sitting behind Tom during the hearing is so astonishingly hilarious to me. 12 hours have passed, and I’m still laughing about this one minute of television.
