I've known @_BryanMay for 15 years, through good times and bad. I had the privilege of working for him for a couple of those years. In all the time I worked in politics, I met no politician more dedicated to their community than Bryan.
Bryan never met a constituent he wouldn't help nor a problem he wouldn't solve. He's made a lasting impact in the lives of many, including mine, and I'm proud of all that he's achieved. Cambridge, our party, and indeed Canada, is worse off without him as an MP.
Happy Canadian Independent Bookstore Day!
I am so honoured to have the endorsement of Cole Davidson, Co-owner, The Spaniel’s Tale Bookstore.
Together, we will stand up for Canada.
Today, the United States launched a trade war against Canada: their closest partner and ally — their closest friend.
Canadians are reasonable, but we will not back down from a fight.
Not when our country is at stake.
After that it was very simple to access my ballot and vote. I didn't have to follow up or ask for help. I simply followed the instructions. The whole process took less than 24 hours. Well done to the @liberal_party staff working so hard to run an efficient & secure race!
I just cast my ballot in the 2025 @liberal_party Leadership race for the next party leader and Prime Minister. The process was very easy and secure. Verifying my identify with the @canadapostcorp Identity+ app was easy, as was securely casting my ballot on the party website.
My legal name does not perfectly match my preferred name on my membership, so my identify was not verified automatically. I received an automated email telling me that my ID would be reviewed by the Party so I waited. The next day I received an email that it had been confirmed.
Doug Ford finally told the truth on the debate stage tonight. He's a flip-flopper, a sell-out, and under criminal investigation by the RCMP. How can we trust anything he says? #onpoli
Did you know indie bookstores sell a much higher proportion of Canadian authors than Indigo or American-owned Amazon? In fact, most Canadian indies have an option to filter by Canadian authors. We currently have over 730 titles by Canadian authors in-store at The Spaniel's Tale.
The United States has confirmed that it intends to impose 25% tariffs on most Canadian goods, with 10% tariffs on energy, starting February 4.
I’ve met with the Premiers and our Cabinet today, and I’ll be speaking with President Sheinbaum of Mexico shortly.
We did not want this, but Canada is prepared. I’ll be addressing Canadians later this evening.
There was an easy answer available to her from the beginning which was that she joined to stop Poilievre. She's had two years to come up with this answer and she and her team should have done so at the very least in the six months they've actively been organizing. Really bad.
While Trump attacks Canada and Trudeau, Canadian water-bomber planes are right now in Los Angeles helping fight the devastating fires. Canada is our friend, ally and partner.
What do we expect for 2025?
- Sales growth to slow somewhat with double digit growth in 7/12 months and single digit growth in the rest.
- To add five new schools to our book fair roster.
- To grow kids sales by 30%, with a small renovation to facilitate that coming soon.
Despite staffing challenges & growing pains, 2024 was a great year for the shop, resulting in double digit sales growth year-over-year in 11/12 months.
Strongest fiction genres haven't changed, but I'm surprised to see bio perform so well when we gave it less shelf space in 2024
We took a measured approach to event growth, turning down events with past low sales & sharing risk with authors, while carefully growing our school book fair business.
Our points program continues to be an important (& beloved) tool - we redeemed over $16,800 in points in 2024.
