Yes...as health coaches we think diets are trash.
Here’s why.
Diets naturally suggest that for a duration of time, you will change your behavior around food to accomplish a goal. What happens? Most people will return to old habits once they "hit" their goal.
As humans we are often scared to ask for things that we need. At times it can feel stressful.
The real truth is that the answer is no 100% of the time if we don’t ask. So our needs do not get met.
So...we might as well ask.

Conflict is hard.
We tend to fight with our spouses, kids, coworkers, friends, etc, because we disagree with them. We feel that our perspective or rationale makes more sense than theirs does.
But are we always right?

We often underestimate sleep or treat it as an afterthought. I know that I do.
When I get busy, sleep is probably the first thing to diminish. This past week has been relentless with every work day averaging between 10-14 hours. #healthcoaching#healthcoachlife#healthcaretips
Another week down. One week closer to summer. Now is the time to keep going. Keep exercising, keep eating healthy, keep going to therapy, keep working on your marriage, keep being a great parent. Just keep going.

Physical and mental health are both on a spectrum. As discussed yesterday, they are not mutually exclusive.
Is it really possible to be healthy...100% healthy? Is it realistic to expect ourselves to be 100% healthy in mind and body all the time? Of course not.
#healthychoice
So often we see people discussing their physical and mental health as two separate things. We believe our overall health to include both of these areas. We cannot be positively or negatively impacted physically without it affecting our mental health as well...and vice versa.
We see so many people in therapy and coaching who are looking for the secret to increasing motivation for themselves. Sometimes it’s to change their health, marriage, work, or other major area of life that they find they do not yet have the necessary motivation to change.
Keep Going. We can’t go back anyway. Everything that’s happened up to this point is done.
If you’re in a good spot, keep going. It can be even better...and it won’t always be this good...so keep going.

Even for those of us who may be on the introverted side...having a small group of people to share life with intimately is essential.
I see many people in therapy struggling with feeling disconnected from life because they don’t have anyone to share life deeply with.
Acceptance is a tricky thing. Sometimes it’s difficult to accept things as they currently are when we have become stuck to another idea of them. This is true for people, places, and things in our life. It’s easy to get stuck on how a relationship was once. #healthcoaching
Many of the people who come to me for therapy are overwhelmed with life. The early sessions are quite literally a game of 52 pick up - they start to talk about something, then the overwhelm comes tumbling out, and they are lost in the weeds. #healthcoaching#healthcoachlife
In yesterday’s post about the possibility of becoming overcommitted as things open back up, we suggested folks do a list of priorities and start with prioritizing that when making commitments.

COVID convenience - the ways we use COVID as an out.
Yesterday we introduced this concept and one of the potential pitfalls - isolation. Today, we are considering the other side of that coin - overcommitment.

COVID convenience - the ways we use COVID as an out.
COVID has offered a legitimate “out” for folks struggling to set boundaries, has allowed many people the opportunity to get much needed rest and clarity, and allowed folks the flexibility of honestly caring for their health.
This is not said from a place of judgement, but is an unavoidable reality. Your actions are the true teller of your priorities.
People talk about what they want to do and who they want to be...a lot. It is easy to get caught up in this pattern ourselves
Don’t sweat the small stuff…
...and almost everything is small stuff.
Most of our discomfort, pain, stress, suffering, comes from focusing on the situations in life that we cannot change.
