🕊️ June 13 is Vindication Day. 🕊️
Today marks 20 years since Michael Jackson was acquitted on all 14 counts, in a case that had little to do with justice, and everything to do with race, power, media, and America’s uneasy relationship with Black excellence.
Let’s be clear:
Michael Jackson wasn’t just on trial in 2005.
Black manhood was.
Fame was.
Success without permission was.
And the verdict, NOT GUILTY on all counts, wasn’t just a legal outcome. It was an act of survival in a system that was never designed to let him live free.
James Baldwin saw it all coming:
“The Michael Jackson cacophony is fascinating in that it is not about Jackson at all. […] All that noise is about America, as the dishonest custodian of black life and wealth; the blacks, especially males, in America; and the burning, buried American guilt; and sex and sexual roles and sexual panic; money, success and despair.”
America was never prepared for a Black man to become the most famous person on Earth.
A man who didn’t just entertain, but redefined music, race, gender, and power on his own terms.
He moonwalked across boundaries the world told him not to cross.
He blurred lines, broke records, and did it all without asking for permission.
At first, they applauded.
Then they commodified.
And when he stopped being easily controlled, when he became too powerful, too complex, too free,
they turned on him.
They didn’t just try to cancel his career.
They tried to erase his humanity.
And yet, on June 13, 2005, despite a media circus and a judicial battlefield, he walked free.
This day is not just about Michael Jackson, it’s about what it means when a Black man survives the machinery meant to erase him.
It’s about vindication, not just from a court of law, but from decades of character assassination, media distortion, and racial projection.
It’s about knowing, as Baldwin wrote, that all the noise was never really about him.
It was about us.
It was about America.
June 13 is Vindication Day.
Never forget what it took for him to survive it.
Never forget what it says about us.

I don't have a blue check but I possess tons of determination. If only ONE person sees my #MichaelJackson tweets filled with info they've never heard, urls of sites filled with MJ #facts they've never visited, #quotes from others who knew Michael intimately, I will keep Rippling!
If you look at everything that is happening right now with these major corporations who hurt kids, Disney, Nickelodeon etc, why are the same kids, that are speaking up, saying that they felt safe around Michael Jackson?!
Because, Michael Jackson was a voice for these children, but instead he was painted out to be sick by the media because he knew too much.
“We charge the U.S. government with Aaron’s death.”
Activists across the U.S. gathered to mourn and honor the life of Aaron Bushnell, the Air Force member who set himself on fire to protest the war on Gaza.
