The Tijuana River is now near dry after all Mexican PBCILA system and canyon collector systems pumps were brought back online following recent repairs.

From executive level coordination to boots on the ground crews pumping and moving water, this was a full-scale effort. Our teams worked around the clock, strategically placing heavy equipment and acting fast to keep cross border wastewater impacts to a minimum.

Our engineers, operators, and field crews delivered when it mattered most, protecting the health and safety of American communities.

This work reflects USIBWC’s core mission: safeguarding public health, protecting shared water resources, and strengthening binational cooperation when it matters most.

Under the leadership of @POTUS Donald J Trump and EPA Administrator @epaleezeldin, I am proud to have signed Minute 333. The new minute institutionalize’ s the 100% Solution negotiated by Administrator Zeldin and Minister Bárcena. I commend @cilamexico Commissioner Reséndez and her team for working so hard on behalf of President Sheinbaum and Secretary Velasco to make this happen.

The IBWC continues to be focused on the comprehensive and permanent solution to the border sanitation problem. Implementing the new minute, combined with the significant improvements we have made at our plant in San Diego, will begin to provide relief to the American citizens that have been exposed to transboundary pollution for decades.

Hoy se conmemora el 75 Aniversario de la Presa Morelos del Río Colorado, inaugurada el 23 de septiembre de 1950, y cuya función es derivar hacia México los flujos del Río Colorado provenientes de Estados Unidos que le asigna el Tratado de Aguas de 1944.

This week, we honor the legacy of #USIBWC Commissioner Carlos Marin and @CILAMexico Commissioner Arturo Herrera, two visionary leaders who dedicated their lives to binational cooperation and public service.

Commissioner Marin, appointed by President George W. Bush, led efforts to modernize flood control and sanitation infrastructure along the U.S.-Mexico border. Commissioner Herrera, a respected engineer and diplomat, served as Mexico’s Commissioner for two decades, advancing cross-border water management.

Both men tragically lost their lives in a plane crash on September 15, 2008 while assessing Rio Grande flood conditions, doing the work they were deeply committed to. Their leadership, friendship, and service continue to guide our mission.

#USIBWC is conducting a small-scale pilot project to evaluate its potential to reduce contaminants from the Tijuana River in #SanDiego, CA as part of our continued effort to explore innovative ways to #ProtectAmericans from #MexicanSewage and improve water quality.

This is a research-based pilot project, and findings will be shared in a final report upon its completion.

El 8 de septiembre se conmemoró el 56 Aniversario de la Presa La Amistad, inaugurada en 1969 por los Presidentes Gustavo Díaz Ordaz 🇲🇽 y Richard M. Nixon 🇺🇸, en el marco del Tratado de Aguas de 1944.

San Diego, CA - Following rainfall on 8/28 in the Tijuana, Mexico region, flows in the Tijuana River peaked at 200 Million Gallons per Day.

To protect equipment, operations at PB-CILA were temporarily suspended that afternoon.

Operations resumed on August 29; however, additional wet weather flows entered the U.S. Due to sediment buildup and vegetation in the river channel, drainage was delayed, resulting in localized pooling throughout the area.

While odors were reported, a specific source could not be immediately identified. The #USIBWC remains in close contact with Mexican counterparts and continues monitoring infrastructure improvements.

We remain committed to delivering results that #ProtectAmericans from #MexicanSewage, restore beaches, and hold our Mexican partners accountable.

Thank you to @RepTonyGonzales staff for visiting the USIBWC Amistad Dam this week! They toured our facilities and received a status update on the Mexican sinkhole project. The visit also highlighted our accomplishments and planned projects. The #USIBWC is dedicated to #ProtectingAmericans from flooding by maintaining #AmericanInfrastructure, supporting #AmericanFarmers with fair water apportionment, and keeping Americans safe from #MexicanSewage.

The staff at Amistad Dam manage flood control, water conservation, and hydroelectric power generation. They oversee the daily operation and maintenance of the dam and its associated infrastructure. Their work ensures the dam operates safely and effectively, making sure this dam works when it matters most.
