🌸 Biodiversity in our communities🦋

🐝 This year, we worked with the Irish Bee Conservation Project (IBCP) to install 13 solitary bee posts within our 5 Green Flag Parks to support the conservation of our bee population, promoting pollination in our parks.

Biodiversity signage on the nature within our parks was also installed to highlight a wide variety of plants, trees, invertebrates, birds and mammals found within our parks.

📚Our libraries provide spaces to relax, learn, and connect with the community. Did you know that Cork City Libraries have three vibrant wormeries?

🐛 Thanks to Aisling and Ben's efforts, eco-friendly wormeries in three libraries serve as educational tools for children, teaching them about composting food scraps with worms.

This project promotes mindful consumption, quality learning, and sustainable communities among young library users.

🎙️Cork in Perfect Harmony

🎉 Cork International Choral Festival launched its 70th anniversary programme and welcomed over 117 performing groups, including 20 international choirs, who will filled venues across the city with music, colour, and culture.

🎵 With more than 700 international visitors and thousands more local participants and audiences, this year's event was one of the biggest yet.

🎨 Did you know we upcycle paint?

Through the Community Paint Grant Scheme, which is open to community groups, sports clubs and schools, we support a circular economy through the recycling of unwanted paint, helping community hubs in a sustainable way.

ℹ️ Last year, 96 groups, including Tidy Towns, community associations, sports clubs, and schools from across Cork, received over 2,000 litres of high-quality, upcycled paint.

🏗️ Infrastructure is vital to building a prosperous community.

🌉 This year, a new pedestrian and cycle bridge from South Main Street to Wandesford Quay was installed.

The new bridge is part of the ongoing Beamish & Crawford Quarter Public Realm scheme, which aims to improve the public realm and access in and around the medieval core of the city.

Footpaths and landscaping work in the Wandesford Quay area leading to the bridge is now underway, as is the tie-in with South Main Street. The bridge is scheduled to be open to the public in the autumn.

🐕 Paws-itive improvements

🐾 We opened a new dog park in Ballincollig Regional Park to offer a new, secure space for dogs to play and stay active.

ℹ️ The park features two zones: one for pups over 15kg and one for those under 15kg.

👪 Over 20,000 people attended across the two days
⚗️ 300 scientists, researchers, performers and volunteers took part

🥧 13 food vendors and family amenities on-site
💶 €300,000+ economic impact

Each year, this weekend enables communities from across the city to come together and learn more about science, technology and mathematics in a fun, accessible way.

🚒 Keeping our #communities safe is our top priority.

👨‍🚒 Our incredible Fire Service delivers a Community Fire Safety Program to promote fire safety. This year:

🧯42 schools, 1679 students, took part in the Primary schools program.
🧯4 schools, 258 students visited the station.
🧯9 groups/schools visits to HQ and Ballyvolane, 157 people.
🧯29 Fire Safety Talks/Presentations were delivered.
🧯665 smoke alarms distributed.
🧯10 Hard of Hearing smoke alarm sets were supplied and fitted into 10 households.

This publication celebrates ten years of the Peann agus Pár writers' group, showcasing a decade of creativity and community through poetry and prose. The LAMA Awards honour community efforts and the promotion of the Irish language across all 31 councils.
