It’s really a shame that his star players decided not to care anymore. Oh and not to mention the fact that he didn’t have a true cleanup hitter at his disposal.
The Philadelphia Phillies fired manager Rob Thomson, sources told ESPN. Don Mattingly will take over as interim manager. First on the news was @MattGelb.
The most likely landing spot for Alex Cora is the #Phillies due to the fact Dave Dombrowski and Alex won that 2018 World Championship together and both have promoted the other as future Hall of Famers. The mutual respect is special. However its more likely for 2027 then now.
The longest losing streak in baseball now belongs to the Philadelphia Phillies, who dropped their eighth straight and are tied with the Mets for the worst record in the National League at 8-16. At -50, the Phillies also have the worst run differential in baseball by 15 runs.
Some WBC observations:
1.) Energy mismatch was real. Seemed like the US didn’t care as much.
2.) The US needs ex-big league coaches in the dugout (i.e. Leyland in ‘17). Its absence felt greater in ‘26.
3.) The “pitch 1x and hang out for the rest of the games” thing has to go.
If the U.S. team is eliminated tomorrow, 2 things have to happen:
1.) There needs to be a new manager in ‘28 for the Olympics.
2.) They need to somehow construct the team with talent AND chemistry, like what the DR and Venezuela have done.
The Phillies had agreed to Bo Bichette’s request for a 7-year, $200 million deal last night and believed they would sign him until the Mets swooped in with their 3-year, $126 million offer after losing out in in the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes.
