For the last few months I've been working on the Black Maternal Health Project with @CollEnc, @Natalie_Denny_ , @LJMU Midwifery and @NML_Muse to see what we can learn from past midwifery care to help fight higher mortality rates for Black mothers in the UK. This poem, cowritten during our public workshops, focuses on Marie Hoover, a midwife born under slavery @CaneRiverCreole who delivered Black and white children over decades in Louisiana.
