Writing is an act of integrative thinking; it knits together the various identity components, sites of learning, and personal experiences that comprise our lives.
@CamasPBL Final A: SCL is a goal of many teaching methods but I've learned is how PBL brings student direction into their own "centered learning". Student input into both the problem and product leaves little room for a teacher to override personal differentiation #edtechchatwsuv
1/5 In a recent tweet, I suggested that presenting students with a list of rules & punishments on the 1st day of class might not be the best way to get them excited about learning. Elsewhere I've written about how to invite students to reflect together (in a class meeting)...
@CamasPBL A34: Authenticity will be present in audience, performance, and need. I want to construct curriculum where students are writing to a community, working toward visible change, and addressing a challenge of true need and benefit. #edtechchatwsuv
@mad4history A33: I can write a paper with ease but other projects require a switch in conception that I sometimes struggle with. Our program has encouraged me to be a learner who is more flexible in a wide array of modalities which is important for my future students too. #edtechchatwsuv
@CamasPBL A35: I look forward to growing my learning network online further but for now my cohort is my most valuable PLN- I so value how we are sharing resources, ideas, and solidarity with each other inside our classes, through our group texts, and online. #edtechchatwsuv
@MorganPress14 A30: During observations, when 7th graders were presenting their passion projects they were asked to present on whether they would be interested in continuing the project on their own in the future. They should also brainstorm who could help them sustain it. #edtechchatwsuv
@CayanGrant A32: I like the idea of an incremental project that the entire class can do together throughout the year to build a classroom identity as collaborative writers. 5 minutes of bell-time magnet poetry everyday that we showcase & publish EOTY #edtechchatwsuv
@MorganPress14 I have a lot of hope that if I'm doing it right, the curriculum is intrinsically rewarding along the way but to cap it off, showcases and other ways for students to show off their learning to their community and be proud of their work is important to me. #edtechchatwsuv
@mad4history A33: I like the emphasis that this program has on challenging the idea that some students are deficient learners due to their background. I look forward to taking a strength mindset into a classroom instead, where I can benefit from my student's unique expertise. #edtechchatwsuv
@MorganPress14 A30: I was able to test the waters with a group of students last Monday. I asked if they could think of environmental justice topics that mattered to them. I had three answers in three seconds. Tapping into student passion and schemata - boy they were ready! #edtechchatwsuv
@mad4history I love that our unit plan is locally centered and includes model texts that directly address things that are happening right now in our students' community, Camas which we hope will directly translate to student ownership and continued advocacy #edtechchatwsuv
@bholyk_teaching As we become teachers, we are learning different ways of teaching than what we might have had. I worry, myself, that it could be easy to slip back into my old routines. Holding memories of the lack of our own agency in the front of our minds can help us in our future curriculum
Q18: Co-creating flexible rubrics with students helps create buy-in and choice. Share a memory where you saw yourself/students in the rubric, or any time where you made a project your own in a way that your instructor wasn’t anticipating. How did it make you feel? #edtechchatwsuv
